Coming closer::: some more info 'bout our headliner this time:
At the age of 16, I came into contact with electronic music due to listening to radioshows like Krapuul de Lux and Teknoville at Stubru and exchanging tapes at school with friends. One day, a friend of mine gave me the Magnetic cd by Jonny L and I was like man this is weird music and it 's going way too fast but I liked it. The same year I saw Grooverider spinning at Pukkelpop and listened to mixtapes of dj Leno.
Caught up with the dancevirus, I bought some cheap turntables, a mixing desk, a Jeff Mills and a Laurent Garnier plate and used my guitar amplificator to amplify the sound cause I didn 't have the money to buy a decent amplifier. A month later I bought my firstdnb record : the Wormhole LP by Ed Rush and Optical (man, I played that album to death) During the summerholidays I was busy working on my skills and then in October 1999 I got o play out for the first time.
A schoolbuddy heard a tape I recorded and asked me to come and play at a small party of a friend of him (now known as Mufson). With a lot of nerves I played a technoset there first and afterwards a dnbset. It was a lot of fun down there and the nice reactions meant an extra reason to go on with what I was doing back then. After a while a stopped playin' techno and I was fully focussed on the drum'n'bass music.
Now and then I had the opportunity to play out but my first real drum'n'bass party was Logical Progresion with Drum'n'Bass at den hemel (zichem) together with Resonance (who stopped playin now), Woodrow and Wontime. They liked it there and decided I could come back (so I became resident dj there alongside Resonance). I started going more and more to JJ Records in Leuven where Wontime worked and started chatting with him. Every time I went there he gave me the good releases of the week so I also came into conact with things I never heard of. I finished high school and I came and live in Leuven. Now I could go to JJ any time and went to every drum'n'bassparty in Leuven. I started going out more and more together with the dudes from fishermans club basement to techno- and drum'n'bassparty's. I started sending e-mails to several party organisers and handing out mixtapes with the result I had to spin more and more out.
Then I discovered breakz.be, a Belgain drum'n'bassforum where I spend lot of time nowadays, where I met some new people by discussing several topics. Getting in contact with new people meant other performances could be arranged. Now I could play in other places than I used to play like the zoo, illtown… In the summerholidays of the year 2002 we (the guys that used to hang out at FCB) threw another episode of Nightscapes, and I must say we did a very good job, 400 partypeople who all had a great time in the forest (the rest you can read on the Nightscapeswebsite).
A few months ago I met Wicked Wayz at the Yellow Fever DJ Contest, he proposed me to do a back to back set at Yellow Fever. We gave it a try after the contest and we immediately knew this collaboration could be deadly. We were mixing in the same kinda way and we had a similar taste in tunes. This was a next challenge for me to play together with another dj. We did it at Yellow Fever and it went so well we hardly couldn 't wait to do it again, and we certainly did. As we are playing together, Wicked Wayz and I grew as a tagteam that is running very smoothely as we played more often back2back. We played at several parties together all over the country (Rumba, Nightscapes, Silo, De Faar and several youthhouses) but also seperately (Dacru, Muziek-o-Droom, Moulin Rouge, Decadance, The Zoo, DitB and several youthhouses) and some famous parties were included with wellknown international artists such as Aphrodite, Total Science, Simon “Bassline” Smith, Robyn Chaos… just to name but a few.
Nowadays I also host a radioshow together with Wicked Wayz, Mikajel and Data at 106 FM (Scorpio). Nowadays my style is slightly different from the things I was playing before. I used to play hard 'n' dark but the music has developped so much, new subgenres are born. The new skool jump up sound (releases on Full Cycle, Formation, Ganja, Bingo, CIA... are responsible for these fat tunes) is the style I combine with other styles as liquid, dubby stuff, reggea driven rollers, some techstep… which works out great, always mixing it up at top speed.
if you think this one is bit too long I also got another one that was made to put on a webiste of another party I played and it goes like this:
Speedwagon is sometimes called 'the Belgian Andy C' because of his jump selection and super fast and tight mixing. Since 1999 he is DJ'ing at events like Logical Progression (Zichem) and Drum in the Basement (Glabbeek). But later on he's been spinning all over the country in venues like Silo, Decadance, Zoo and Muziekodroom alongside Aphrodite, Total Science, Simon Bassline Smith, Capital J, JB & Spice just to name but a few. As a resident in the Nighscapes Crew he has organised numorous free parties and yearly open-air events. He also hosts a dnb program on Louvain's Radio Scorpio.
