You could both put them thru a mixer and put a comressor after that. The problem is that all other sounds in the mixer get compressed too. So what you do is you split the signal of the kick. One goes into the mixer and one goes into the sidechain of the compressor. The compressor is placed on the channel of the bassline only. If there is no kick, the compressor does shit. If the kick is triggered, the compressor will come into action. Adjust the treshold and shit to get everything as you want it. This is something completely different from, say, when the bassline and the kick combined are too loud. Than you use a sidechain to let the volume of the bassline drop to not interfear with the kick.
