Alright man, Weird intro. I like the breaking sounds. Guitar type thing sounds alright, but pretty loose and a bit messy. The drums sound really bad. The only thing cutting through is the snare drum, everything else is really muffled. There are some nice bits of ambience going on though.
Theres a random change at about 3 minutes which sounds completely out of the blue. The guitar thing gets pretty boring after a while, some variation would be a good thing. At the moment the track doesnt seem to go any where, it just sort of floats around one fairly boring riff. I dont think this sounds anything like AFX. The ambience is good but the drums are weak and the guitar is dull. I think with some better EQing the drums and ambience would sound good. But I think you'd do well to find a better riff to put over it all. A lot of Aphex's stuff is very melodic which people always seem to miss. Whenever Ive heard something thats supposed to be inspired by him, it always is lacking in melodies as well as structure. I think that melodies and structure are the most defining thing of Aphex's music. Its a very half hearted thing to assume that a track with some strange noises and hectic drums will sound anything like his stuff. So, Im going to try and reveiw the track for its own merits. The drums are good rythmicaly, if a little rigid, but youve eq'ed them very badly. They sound really muffled and unclear. The guitar tone is alright, but the playing is very messy, and gets boring reletively quickly. The ambience is good, but instead of just using noises here and there, try using them to build up the tension, this will intern give the feeling that this tune is actually going somewhere. And the structure really needs work, at the moment this sounds like 4 minutes of the same stuff. I wouldnt recomend suggesting that any tune is inspired by anybody, that is for the listener to pick up on. The moment you try to draw comparison between yourself and an artist like Aphex, youre setting yourself up for reveiws that are, undoubtably going to a: criticise you for the comparison. and B: give you fairly bad reveiws, because if you are told something is Aphex influenced, you cant help but make a direct comparison, and not to be harsh, but this aint even close to AFX.
