Last thing I heard was that the hard drive crashed, wich contained Breakz.be and Appletree...
Unfortunately, nobody ever tought about making backups. so Breakz.be is off the air for a while... Don't know 'bout Appletree tho.
Maybe anyone here with a backup? Wink

And this may sound weird, but how about someone setting up a webserver at home and having a backup ready next time? Just a hint tho... Big Grin

HD just suddenly died after a memory upgrade, they don't know the actual reason why it died.

That temporarely server is gone already for a long time, remember zeus?

And btw they tought of backups, but cause backups were rather expensive they only we're going to do backups after appletree was fully completed.

and a webserver at home? lol

do u have any idea how much bandwidth costs and how much breakz only needed ? Wink

am sure more info will follow later on

did some one else see that documentairy on TV about crashed, burnt, smashed up HD's? Some company 'fixes' those HD and tries to extract al the remaining data, with real wicked results!
sometimes up to 90-100% data recovered, even from totally f*cked up pc's (including shortwired laptops by drinks Big Grin

)

Yeah, Econocom does that (not themselves in fact, they send them to England when needed) but it's insanely expensive!!!

not that I take a lot of backups myself, but for a system like breakz you'd expect someone would take care of that

What's that about backups being expensive btw?
I don't know how big the breakz database is, but there are always cheap ways to do a backup, like by simply burning the files on CD-R or CD-RW, or by plugging in an old cheap small HD and make a backup on that one.

Don't want to be a wiseass, but it might be something worth thinking of when the next breakz server goes online.

Btw, typical Murphy's Law here innit? No backups before Appletree is completed....bam, server crashes.

we're talking about a rented server which is located in houston and a database which is about 50gb in total. So you cant just walk over there and plug something in to backup
