when u got a synthasizer... u can make the tune of the sound... detune thing allows u to change the tune of the sound i think... so if u turn it down u will get a low sound... turn it up u get a high sound.... i think...

so wen ur making a reece u go the saw n detune.

*I THINK*

yeah its when you adjust the frequency of the signal so its not bang on a key. so if you have a bunch of saws and you detune them you get that cool sound when they come in and out of phase.

atleast thats my understanding

detune is a minor change it pitch.
1 octave = 12 semitones,
1 semitone = 100 cents,
detune usualy deals with cents, 1 note is max in pitch change.
when you detune 2 0scilators or wave shapes an equal
and oposite amount, they modulate and sound difforent,
this modulation speed changes depending on how de-tuned they are,
or on how high or low the notes you play are.
(faster detune modulation for higher notes)

post detune before FM, distortion, etc will sound way difforent then pre. i suggest pre for a basicly more messed up and dirty sound.

one of the latest experiments in my synth making projects was a detune that was relative to the note you played,
and it was then named "vibe" and is one of the few peremeters of the vsti called "mmd_companion_beta".

also MDA Detune, they have a latency in the seperate sides, that cuase a cool three dee effect, but mostly it's where you change pitch in relation to another. usually done in semi tones, but there is also cents. like he said, thier the smallest part of tones really.

anyways, detune causes phasing issues, and this is how you get flanger, they play the same shit back a little later, and the differnece causes phase cancelation.
this makes certin parts of the note disappear.

so dtune, is kine like flangers.
