I use FL and I have never ever liked that step sequencer you get in it when it comes to programming drum patterns but have always like that TR909 style drum machine a bit like you get with Reason.

Is there a free or commercial plugin you can get in the style of the TR909 or something similar? I've been Googling around but no joy yet.

You could try the FPC plugin that comes with fruity, It is not really 909 like, but more like an akai MPC. You can then use the piano roll to program your drum patterns.

Ohhh the dreaded Rebirth, I got it but I don't use it, cannot stand it!

I'm just trying to figure out how to Rewire FL and Reason 1, the FL instruction really aren't making much sense.

you just open rewire as a channel in fl (any fl above vers. 4) like you would with any vsti. then in the lil drop down selector window there every program you have on ur pc that can be used as a rewire host should be listed (reason, acid, cubase, orion etc.), select reason and click open panel, the reason window will pop up.

There is nothing there about ReWire or Reason when adding a new channel.

I went to the FL Plugin Setup and choose the Reason folder (C:\Program Files\Propellerhead\Reason) to put the FL Studio VSTi (Multi).dll & FL Studio VSTi.dll into. Fruity then said it had now registered FL and the ReWire host. Confused

something must have fucked up with the installations. I'd reinstall FL and/or Reason

again, what version is the Fruity Loops you're using?

_edit: the copies are legal I presume. I remembered that cracked Reason 2.5 couldn't rewire Rebirth

Sorry forgot to add the versions.

FL Studio 5 (brought)
Reason 1.01 (brought)

I've just done it, not sure what I done though but ReWire is now showing up in my "Add new channel" list. Maybe it was because I put the 2 .dlls in a new folder instead of just leaving them on their own in the Reason folder.

Now if I add a new Dr.Rex channel & load up a rex file, I cannot just paint the loop in the FL sequencer and have it looping for as long as I want, it has to be added to the Reason sequencer and looped from there and then added to the FL sequencer?

Also, unless I take the samples outta the Reason sequencer, they will continue to play even if I make a new FL channel and play the pattern.

Ah, just had a loop in the Dr.Rex player and just opened up the piano role and started messing with the beats, kinda like beat slicer but it seems better.

By the way, can you not have more than one Reason channel? Mine won't let me choose Reason again, only Orion demo, FL Studio and Rebirth Audio.

If I'm not mistaken, you should patch the reason instruments to slots in the rewire bay on top, and then they will show up as several channels in your rewire host.

Edit: I just found there is a nice "Using FL Studio ReWire with Reason" in the FL5 help, read it Wink

yeah, it even seems to have some sort of midi in/out settings to connect with machines in Reason, so you can sequence them in Fruity's playlist after all / too much of a hassle really since the sequencer is a piece of cake

I tried it yesterday, but apparently for some reason you can only sequence the synths in FL, the Redrum just kept going on and on as long as the FL was playing.

I have found TR909 free drum machine. Not very ReWiRaBlE, but free and has some good samples:

Hammerhead 1.0

N-Joy!

yeah rewire's a bitch like that sometimes. almost seems like it was never fully tested to be compatible with what it says its compatible with or somethin...has bugs all the time, or strange circumstances like that...
