Indeed, but you can use it to record and edit samples, so in that point of view it's a sampler too
but not the kind we are talking about

Get a good sound card!!! That's more important than the software you use. After extensive testing I got an RME Digi96/8 PAD-BC a couple of weeks back. It costs 250 euro but it sounds friggin good
I haven't worked with many soft samplers yet but I like the EXS24 sampler that comes with Logic for sure!
