Please check out my new track 'GreyOne vs The Great Fisher Cat - (Beautiful) Change' and post your comments here!!!
Allright, this tune deserves a story. I was reviewing some songs in DnB.Be few weeks back, when I found GreyOne´s tune Change. It was a really good tune, with absolutely excellent beats, but I felt that Drop -parts were too empty. I opened a argument, where I requested more elements to ambient moments. So we agreed that I show what I mean, and publish my version of the tune here. This is not a remix, it is a continuation where GreyOne left off.
Please do visit the original discussion and review also the original tune. My point is to show, that Drop may contain plenty of elements, as long as their feeling is relaxed or different.
What do YOU think?
Original Track can be Found here:
http://www.drumnbass.be/forum/thread.php?threadid=5800
This tune is my first in this forum, it is one of the first tunes ever I have finished but I´ve been in the game for some time, so please do not give me any mercy when reviewing this song. Just remember to tell me why you hate it/like it.

Hey, good work !
I think there is a little bit of clipping in the intro, the drums sound great, good bass and kick variation. Maybe a little melodie to ad with the drums as in the style of the intro which is also good work.

cant remember if i reviewed the other one or not.....and im to lazy to check......anyway.....cool intro...samples are nice enuff.....some of the synths are bit weird in places during the first drop.....
anyway its good....but some of the samples seem a bit out of place.....i would go for either just the mushrooms sample and build around the theme or drop it completely...

I found a picture of a fisher-cat, and a good link to describe a little about them. They are members of the ferrit family.

Thanks Nick for critical review. GreyOne´s beats are absolutely stunning, so I had easy task to work only on melodies. If you have time, be sure to check his original song, and compare / review my added elements.
What is your opinnion, ho wmuch active elements drop can contain?
I did not actually know there is such a animal as Fisher Cat. I have been allways thinking Great Fisher Cat as a large cat with black and grey stripes, fisherman´s best friend. a bit like one of our cats. I´ll drop a picture of him when I am at home.

Yeh it's better when using more ambient :
-first to fill up the freq.
-second cause its better anyway.
Breakdown is cool with those added tikkle drums
2nd drop is exagerated with the ambient , sorry.
5:45 clips
This track could allso use less drops (i have like 4 drops) and better buildups / breakdowns.

I was going back and forth when I was listening. I like the added elements, I did'nt say that before, but I also liked his track prior to the addition. I think a remix is a little more flattering and more approprate when it comes to someone elses work. (Just my opinion) When I read your name I was curious enough to look it up, I am a cat person. Z

Yep, please do not take my introducion as I would have been unhappy or not liking the GreyOne´s original track. The reason why I did not use term "Remix" was because I dd not have access to all components and was not supposed to touch the beats. My original task, given by GreyOne was "Make ambient... more ambient."

Thanks for your input, I am glad that you like it. If I ever have time/energy to come back to this tune, I will promise to take your comments into account. One possibility is that I provide you all audio tracks and you can continue from that.

the track has everything it needs, good structure, good intro, great drums. af for the drums I would leave out some drum and snare roffles.
at 0:13 I hear some clipping.
at 1:56 I would give the bass more volume, but that's my own opinion.
I really enjoy the drum variations and the distorted kicks. mayeb it's and idea to stretch the short "mushroom" voice as to build op a climax here and there.
great song !

like the intro, cool melody.
the drop is nice and hard but i think it could use more sub bass.
a couple of samples have lots of static, like the "mushroom" sample, doesnt sound too good.
really like the trip hop break in there, i think thats the best part of the song.
nice work choppin up the beat.
overall, its a good track, a bit rough around the edges, but good.
cheers.

Not such a bad tune, but the mastering is HORRIBLE. Bad EQing and worse compression.

Well, the EQing isn't great. The bass could pump a bit more, the drums could have some more punch and the mid part of your basslines could use a boost around 4k hz imo (gives it this nice agressive edge). But the biggest problem is the compression. It is too extreme and gives this horrible fluctuating effect on the sound, messing it up.

well i think the eqing is my fault , and the compression is because i compressed it too much and fishercat compressed it again (because it weren't dry samples , just the track)
