Yesterday I thought: "I wanna make my own good sounding snares and bassdrums". But then the next question: "where do I start ?" I don't want to take sounds from sample cd's or whatever. It must be snares and drums that I make. Now my question is how do you, producers, get the sounds ? Do you people hit with your fist on a table and record it ? Do you have a real drum installation ? What's the origin of all those great sounding drums on sample cd's ? What's the technique to start from zero ?
Yesterday I started from the best sounds of the xp30 and re-edited them, but that didn't satisfy me at all, compared to what I hear on the sample cd's...

A lot of samples from sample CDs are indeed recordings of real drums, or drumcomputers. But mostly they're quite processed: EQed, compressed, layered...

*kbom scrac kbomscrac*
I was really bored in class the other day and I started tapping on my agenda, which actually gave a nice un-dnb-usable dancehall/reggaeton-like snare
How about trying some stuff in the kitchen?
grab yerself two chopsticks or spoons and start hitting pans, wok's, bottles, other spoons, plates, the oven, the table, the lamp, your dog..

enigma did the matchstick thing once.
we all think we're being original but not so much as thought, there's all kinds of sample cds out that are just banging on trash samples.
and surora's retarded, but interesting idea man, i got a vintage metal trashcan in the back that i might try that with.

yeah I know. lots of others too. but I had no idea then
I think it's not about the originality of the idea, agreed, everything we can imagine has already been done before... maybe the accent lies in the personal touch that you give.
lol about surora. back in the days hitting something with something was like the only instrument available.. I would say back to the roots!!!

yesterday, a nervous rage came over me and I started to produce kicks, snares and hats, the sounds came out of my mouth and I recorded them. Even the men in the ice-times or stoneage could make drum n bass this way, hey and maybe they did...
Who thinks it's possible to produce drum sounds from the mouth, anyone with some bad experience ?

once uve heard a beatboxer doing a delay effect (with his mouth
) u'll believe u can make any sound with ur voice.
And as Lemon D points out in Knowledge 2.60, ANYTHING can be used as a bassline, even ur own voice (just put enuff fx on em)

You can get all kinds of cool and weird sounds from a (rather large) piece of sheet metal.

if u have one of those, please sample it!!!
i cant find one decent sample of those, or it's a horn from a boat, or it's surrounded by football noises.
