ok - edited this post...

While I had troubles with my soundcard applying an echo to all system audio as a result of a crash, which took me a while to work out Frown ...

there is a new feature on sound forge 8 which I just 'purchased'... the option to 'monitor input' doesn't mean that you see the levels in the record window, it means that it actually outputs the input, only after going through an inavoidable playback buffer, giving a delay from 10ms to 1s. you can kill this by unchecking the box. seems easy but its just taken me 3 beers to work it out... I could've been well onto writing an ep in the time its taken me to sort this out!

and while I'm at it, here is a tip for FL users u probably all know, but I didn't (only been using it 3 years mind)...

When u set up the effects in the mixer, it works as a chainer from top to bottom - meaning an effect's output will work as the input for the efect below it. Simple but VERY important.

Peace.
wT

ps - Good breaks mixes here for a change btw - www.edinburghbassed.com/downloads.html (check Mikey and Believe)

Right, enough of your lip you cheeky monkey... Smile it's a linux box the site is hosted on so if I type 'Downloads' instead of 'downloads' it don't work...

It was the capital version until I re-coded the site last night... got to bed at 5am so, y'know...

yeah, prolly not alot of newcomers to FL think about that, but thats where the help files come in amazingly handy. It's kinda cool actually cuz you can do really weird effects by switching plugins around on the effects channel, like running delay through a reverb then another delay and so on and so on. Possibilities are limited to the imagination.

Pleased doo do doodoo doodoo

yeah mate, I was so busy steaming ahead with my creative enthusiasm I neglected a quick scan through the help files... till the other day, then I went... ahhhhhhhhhhh! That's why all those frequencies are there even though I'm absolutely sure I just told it up there to cut them out Big Grin

It was only by sheer chance I looked at the help files actually, might give 'em a proper read right through, then, look out Rupert Parkes!

I'm maybe wrong here (still haven't read the help files Smile ) but couldn't you just send the channel into another channel via the Channel output selector e.g. Channel 1 (8 x fx) into Channel 2 etc...

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. They'd be no need for the send channels if you could just link one channel to another. You can send it to 4 different send channels instead of just the 1 though.

Actually if you want to be technical, you could send each channel right into another one. I've done it a few times before, but I can't see using beyond 2 or 3 channels which would total up to 24 effects for one sample. But it is possible. FX1 [OUT->FX2] FX2 [OUT->FX3] and so on.

I had no idea you could do that, that's really useful.

edit: It works great on your drums, once you've sent all your drum hits to different mixer tracks and eq'd them etc. you can then send them all to an empty mixer track and add effects to the lot of them. It's just the same as using the send really but much better.

the send channels come in handy for if you want to have the same effect over multiple effect channels at different levels, but yeah essentially it's like having even more send channels. i've found myself doing that before with synths and basslines but ive found new ways to get the same results with less plugins.
