Please check out my new track 'Personal Space Invaders' and post your comments here!!!
This here's another swingstepper for those who might have missed "Groovicide Bomber." Space is the place for this intergalactic throwdown.

Introatmos are nice.
Vocoded vocal is cool
Drop: snare is a bit lowfi, hats could use a bit phattening up too.
Bassline: the melody is allright for a jump-up tune or whatever this is supposed to be, but the sound kinda sounds like farts or something. Dunno, not really feeling that.
Not really feeling that theremin-like sound, sounds too 50s shi-fi to me.
Not really bad production in fact, but I still didn't like it very much, maybe it's a bit too weird for my taste...

I've been looking forward to responding to these reviews since I saw them at work earlier today.

Good. If there's one thing which I never want to be accused of, it's trying to please everyone.
Now, that's not to say that I discredit your opinions. Au contraire, as a person who has reviewed a plethora of tracks at dnbscene.com, I can honestly say that I evaluate each review as it comes and take what I can from it (although, I've learned to trust some reviewers more than others). I'm also not saying that there aren't things which can be improved in the tunes I do. However, my personality is such that I'm not the easiest person to figure out, and "Personal Space Invaders" just happens to be a manifestation of that - tongue-in-cheek, fun at heart, not too serious. It's just like you said, Nick, a bit silly. It's something I've dealt with from the beginning, even when I thought I was being "conventional." In fact, recently, someone said that "I Missed Me" had "an unusual vibe and a weird, twisted sound." I really thought that I was being ordinary there.
Anyways, thanks for your time and your thoughts.

Yeah, I get what you mean Charlie, I kinda guessed when I heard the track. And in that way it's cool in it's own perspective. But it's not something I'd buy or play...

Absolutely no hard feelings, folks.
Matter of fact, feel free to bring the harsh and critical feedback in the future. "Comfort reviewing" doesn't do anybody any favours.

Yeah, just remember man, no matter how bad people think it is, just remember once you leave your pc and back into the real world, your day will go on the same regardless of the comments. Just remember everyone will have their own say and there's always gonna be individuals that don't feel it and others that luv it. It's a fact of life and every artist goes through it. For me, it's what makes you happy and sharin with other people is a benefit. I think too many people are more concerned about writing tracks they think everyone else wants to hear and thats where the creativity gets lost. I can't say for me personally the track itself was blowing me away, but it shows creativity and if you like it, then thats really all that matters. It almost sounded like an experimenting session. I don't really ever recall hearing drum sequencing like that in a dnb track so it kinda hit me weird in some spots. I can't really comment on what could be better and what was outstanding as this is a bit weird for me and I'm not 100% sure what you were aiming at with this track, so maybe you achieved what you wanted too. But I'll leave it at this..It's not bad, but it's not my cup of tea for everyday listening tho there were some kinda cool sound effects. But keep goin' and bring more to the tables man. Don't let one tune do you in.

your melody is way too happy dude... The reverbed droid voice is kinda...
Dunno... Monotone is not what I like...
the ufo synth is rather cool for a track like this, but it really needs another melody...
And the drums are rather easy.. Not what I expected from you to hear dude
anyway, I made a space invaders tune too, people said it was too slow, but it was way tight
Rather empty I guess, but it sounds really good (that's my opinion)
Rate tracks is not exactly my thing so I will leave this track unrated.
Keep it up, mate

Why is it a big deal in dnb to follow what the top boys are putting out all the time. if this is what had happened in the scene from the start then we would have a scene like the hardcore scene in the uk were u have same sounds different arragment for the last 10yrs, it take imagination ,guts and that lil sumot else to put new styles out there and it would be good for the headz to keep an open mind for the health of the scene. i make music from how i feel at that time , i dont listen to a track and think i wana make that style. Personal Space Invader :- class track , production is good , idea is off the wall madness, feel that if u add some roling drums in some parts of the track it will make the marching beat stand out more. also felt u maybe need to look at eq'in a bit of space in the fx's , overall a cool original twisted idea.

Thanks for your time and comments, folks. I'll come out swinging and say that this forum has been the most helpful in the feedback for this track. It was a nice surprise to come home from church and see that more people commented on "Personal Space Invaders," so expect more submissions from yours truly.
Anyway...

Hey, not a problem...I do like to keep things simple when producing. You know what they say about too many cooks spoiling the broth, right?

I underlined the part which describes my modus operandi.
Now, don't get Chuckie wrong - I'm not on this grand mission to "change the face of drum 'n bass," nor do I want to come off as being weird for the sake of it. Matter of fact, "Another One Bites The Duck" (an old song I submitted here in 2003) was inspired by Ed Rush & Optical's "Get Ill" - but only one person spotted the influence there. I do love making d 'n b to death, and it's an excellent launching pad for these crazy ideas which bounce around in my mind. I'm inspired by loads of stuff - music from other genres, video game BGMs, old TV shows, sitting in church, or eating Chinese food. If it's good (to me, anyway), it's game - no pun intended.

this tune is what it is. i can see how a strange night could spawn something like this, i could see this being used somewhere in daily life. i think you could sell this to a childrens cartoon show, not to say the production isn't anything other than top notch. it just seems only the people with open minds and crazy animation skills could match this thing. i just want to quantize your drums soooo bad...the snare is flat, layer a sharp, tight drum head, square hitting. the intro rocks, i like the stereo efffects. this is a new one to me, i got to say it is done fairly well, maybe use a sampler to and chop up the vocal, then layer the chops with some of the kick drum hits. it might be a cool way to keep that vocoded sample going, it is one the catchiest parts of the tune, go with it! peace

Sorry I took so long to respond, Short-Wave. Perhaps I should submit this tune to a cartoon show if the opportunity presents itself.
I'll say that I do agree that the snare could cut through the mix better. I was listening to Dave Akuma's "Miu" last night, and one of the first things I noticed was the strength and clarity of his snare. So I'll keep working on that element as I do more tracks.
Thanks for your time and thoughts.

Hi
I like this tune, but I dont like its sounding.
The bassline is too muddy, and the drums too quiet. The stereo field is a litle bit wider than should be.
Its my opinion but I think you could get a much better track if you take care of this things.
Keep it up!
