isnt that what made this scene in the first place was expieramenting??

i dont want a history lessson mind you just stating if the ppl in the beginning hadnt thought about going past the norm none of us would be here today..

and I think its important to remind ourselves that the dj's got this all off the ground to begin with.

So we need to bear this is mind! Also without the right structures and the djs to mix, our material wouldnt get the 'radio airplay' / club promotion it depends on to survive.

We'll all end up making tunes for couch potatoes with i-pods!!

that's exactly the type of people that complain about borning msuic.
iPod Whores!
they have to ahve the chorus line come in within 5 second's or there attention span makes them click the next of the over 100,000 songs. "Radio edit's" and other radio friendly songs, have this exact format which ruined the album version songs. hell it ruined albums entirly than, people just want the radio singles.
don't blame them because most label's push to spend all the time ona few singles, and just hae the rest of the song's take backseat as long as they can release teh album before christmass, or before teh summertime. can't waste studio time on song's that will never be heard on radio, and not bring in the royalties. they just need to have peopel buy the cd from the few singles on the radio, and they got the whole album unloaded and a big wad-o-cash.

I've listened to some liquid lately, and I noticed how a lot of liquid tracks just roll on, using very little elements to keep it interesting for the whole time it lasts...

three reasons why I can listen to a whole Bryan G liquid mix, but a Darren Jay mix just puts me to sleep..
those Liquid V tracks are all fuggen catchy, never listen one, they're in your head all day long, like AI's desperado or Roni Size's Want your Body (Calibre remix tough)

I like repetitiveness to a certain extent. My favourite vinyl at the min proves this. TinkYaBad by ??? dont know but that is a heavy track, and it is as repetitive as hell. It gives the track that feeling you know whats coming next but you love it, and you'e waiting for it. Gives you something to bounce to.

sorry to state this but

imo loads of young producers just lack creativity

how can a tune sound repetive? did you guys heard vessel?
do you guys know where dnb is coming from?

just make sure it doesn't
i mean it's really simple guys

a) you intent to make it : style towards monotone dancefloor tracks
b) you experiment : broader gernes & athmos

have a good day Tongue

It's very easy to make things repetitive in any sort of electronic music.

I have a very odd way of makin some of my breaks... I beatbox for about 1-2 minutes to a metronome, recording into cubase, load in an amen and try n make the amen replicate wat my beatboxing was doing.

Now im pretty good at beatboxing so my beats end up really intricate and the amen is damn funky imo...
Its really good for getting the immediate head nod effect in people and since the break wont loop for a good minute or so u cant really get bored of it Smile

maybe some of you more experienced producers could give it a go? im sure that that way u could turn out some real sick shit

I seem to be quite famous around my skool as the resident drum n bass enthusiast, even tho im not what would be classed as a 'chav' (lets face it, it is very, very popular amongst the chavs)
Im more of a metalhead/goth kinda guy, and it leads to some rather interesting sounds in my drum n bass, like ive recently started experimenting with some metally music scales for the basslines Smile

I really need to upload em to show ya wat i mean lol

You've got a point there mate, but if a tune is constantly changing I don't "feel" it. It has to sound like one big bad banging machine. I see a lot of people complaining about tunes that get posted on here about lacking variation, but just listen to some dj mixes. Most tunes are very repetitive and the "so important" break is usually not even played, the mix has to have a constant flow to keep the crowd going.
