Anyone here ever shot any videos to go with their tracks? or done any video making in general?

Im interested in doing two things:

1) shooting a short & fairly abstract piece of video with one of my d&b tracks as backing

2) shooting an actual short film from a screenplay that im currently writing

Im probably gonna do both on DV coz I have free use of fairly decent camera so im not gonna shell out for film.

I was just wondering though what was the best or a good piece of editing software to use? Ive heard that adobe premier is a good one but im not really much more clued up than that.

Can anyone help?

Go with AVID Express, sick effects, easy to use, and the light version of the North American Standard for Broadcast editing!

I've never looked into it, but how 'bout Steinberg Nuendo? Might be kinda overkill tho, not sure what you're looking for in terms of price range and features.

Steinberg Nuendo Site

Hope that helps.

The latest versions of sony soundforge have video editing capabilities. So far I've only used ulead video studio because it came with my webcam, and windows video maker. They're both ok but not great. If you want to go for lots of effects and stuff you could also look in to VJ software such as arkaos or resolume. They both have some recording and rendering possibilities.

I stick with Adobe Premiere, started off with 5.0 and now am working with Pro 1.5. Still feels like the most proffesional to me. And if you're working with effects pro gives a preview without rendering now.

VirtualDub is also a must have. Comes in handy every time. Especially if you need to convert files to editor friendly encoded types.

If you want to make a dvd of off it you should use both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Encore to make your own custom menu and render the dvd.

Yeah ive started using premier1.5 and seems pretty cool. It has kinda a familiar feel too it because of similarities to photoshop. The only annoying thing I have found is that you need to render the video quite often otherwise it's really jerky & slow in the preview window. The problem is is that when its been rendered you cant go back & change or undo anything you did before....

I used Magix Video Deluxe Plus 2005 to make this video:

It is user friendly, stable if you got a decent computer, but if you really want to put a lot of time and effort (this one already took me loooooong) I guess it would be better to go for the combo Adobe Premier + After Effects
