FL, but do you put something extra to the kick? To boost it more ... like another sound for instance ...

Fruity Bass boost.
boost it at about 80-100
use it on basslines from 60-80.

Second Dave Akuma, that trick + some occasional (if necessary) side chaining does the trick on pre-prepared layered (hi kickstab + low&longer kick boom) kicks.

I use FL for my sequences and basically it all depends on the track I'm doing. I like personally to use kicks with shorter decay time. Kinda quick and punchy. then I like to use the fruity compressor to just kinda fatten it up a bit, just to make it punch a bit more. I'm not a huge fan of acoustic kicks but that's just a preference. Also, if I can't achieve the sound I want with just one kick, I might layer it up with another one to get a new sound out of it. I've never really fooled around much with making my own kicks from scratch as I have such a huge archive of drum one shots. Starting with good samples is a plus as well.

then I put the same fx on each kickdrum and eq them at the same time:
fruity blood overdrive: gives a nice analog sounding distortion (great for basslines, snares and hats too, it gives the drum a sold sound without distorting it too much)
fruity parametric eq: I eq them all at the same time to get one solid kickdrum sound. |
told you this many times already passda

an other important thing is to find the sweetspot in frequency of the kick you've composed. Start sweeping the bassfrequencies and see what fits best in the loop as well in the whole tune.
Then I mostly cut tem around 80-85hz. and boost them a little around 1800-2500hz. It makes then stand out a bit more in the mix imo.

Find good clean kick samples, lots of them.
1. Lay down a heavy kick and boost the lower freqs and cut the highest ones.
2. Lay down another regular kick (preferably something acoustic) and boost the low-mid freqs.
The first kick is for the heavy feel and the second is for the punch to give it some life.
I find that I get the thickest kicks when I eq the first one with TC's Parametric EQ (kick drum preset) and then the second one I use fruity parametric EQ (bassdrum punch preset). It sounds heavy to me

You could also run a bass sample or from a synth VSTi. Use a sine wave with a short envelope and cut some of the high freq (if any). You could run this through a compressor and distort slightly then play alongside a 909 kick for a tech sound or something acoustic. Be sure that it doesnt resonate badly with your bassline though.

Or, if you want the kick to have the 'thump' attack, you should make it with high attack rates.
To do this, put a compressor in the FX which will collect the bass and the kick lines, and then on the compressor set attack times which are more than 15 ms and less than 80 ms.
Ratio set to 3:1.
The decay set to 100ms or something (not less)
Add a little gain.
Now when the kick attacks, it will pass the compressor in the first few milliseconds, giving that phat thump, and then mingle with the bassline.
