This is probably a stupid question, but Ive been using FL Studio for a while, but cant automate VSTs at all, The in built effects I have no problem with, but any VSTs I cant automate.
Does anyone know how this can be done?

Is it the same as the Fruity synths and effects, just right click on a knob to get to the automation data?

The problem is that when I go move the mouse over a fruity instruments controls, I get 2 small icons in the small info window in the top left corner of the screen. One means that the control can be assigned to a midi controler, and the other means that it can be automated. However, I dont get these when using a VST effect or synth. Is this something to do with the settings of the fruity wrapper, or because Im using FL Studio4 or just because Im being stupid.

lots of ways to automate parameters in fruity.
one that works for evey vst (except kontakt and battery, as far as i know, these are a lot more difficult...but i posted a way to automate them already somewhere here)
for almost every vsti.
1. turn the parameter you want to automate (just wiggle it so it becomes selected).
2. click on the pink plug-in icon on the wrapper window of your vst
3. select from the menu: 'last tweaked parameter'
4. select 'edit event'
5. draw your automation in the newley opened window
to re-open the automation window, open the browser menu, click on automation
another way: select an empty patern, press record during playing of a part you want to automate, that patern gets elongated and holds the automation, re-open it through your browser.
hope this helps, always difficult to talk it through and not being able to show it

and oh yeah: the way you used to do it only works for fruity's own plug-ins, not for third party plug-ins

dont make this hard...laord your vst in your master channel for whiecher sample its assigned to...
hit record on your FL display, and then press play...
then do your automations..
hit stop and then record so its not lit anymore...
thatts one way...
OR
you can load your vst in your master channel lets sya a filter...and you want to automate a low pass filter... on a bassline...
right click the cut off and draw your automation and make sure it matches up to the leantth og the sample...and youre done...that simple..

That only works with the fruity effects, not VST ones.
The way WW described works fine, in the fruity wrapper there is a list of parameters that you can automate. I tried it last night and it works fine. Only thing ig it doesnt work fo DX plugins. Gonna have to change half my effects now, all my favourites are DX.
Cheers for the help everyone.

I think you can do it for DX effects too, but you have to use midi. gonna check on that.
