Please check out my new track 'Tongue-Nail (Cylocibe-Cubensis)' and post your comments here!!!
Ive spent about a week on this one, its a slow builder but gets fairly intense by the end. Id like it to be longer but the ending doesnt leave anywhere to go. Its been a mission to get the levels right on this one (and I think the MP3 converter has added some distortion too) So please let me know how it sounds at your end.
Cheers

Goddamn I had an Aphex Twin influence feeling on this one, love the mysterious intro, those bells and waterdrops are awesome ... I really don't have much to say, I would have to leave this song to the pro's to review ... I'm not experienced enough to review such complicated patterns ... The only thing I have to say is that you used and mixed the sounds perfectly, I can see why you used a whole week to finish this one ... I'm impressed, you're going bigger and bigger with everey tune ...
10/10 what more needs to be said ? A lot more, love to read some more explaining reviews on this one cause I think you don't have much help with mine ...
Good work

Cheers for the reply. Experiance or whatever isnt really a factor im bothered about, just whether you like the tune or not. Besides, the main audiance for electronic music isnt gonna know a sequencer from a sampler, but they know whether they like somthing or not.
To be honest, half the time spent on this one was dicking around with Reaktor 5 and making horrid noises, although some of those did make it into the tune so I guess its kinda constructive. The waterdrop samples are out of Reaktor as are some of the drum edits too. The bell noises are actually an 18 inch Indonesian Gamalan Gong, a toy xylophone, and anything else in my room made from metal, I recently borrowed a really nice senheiser mic and went on a bit of a sampling mission.
Glad you liked the tune and thanks for the reveiw.

Wow dude some really impressive shit! Didn't hear any distortion. Wooo-weee this is a dewzy
. As someone else said this really should be a bit longer. Man those drumz are insane, all your revers hit's just amazing man. Did you use automation or manual knob twisten? Or a bit of both? Pure madness man! This is a brilliant track! Im stumped! Thy shall say no more. 10/10 Oh and I will miss the old avatar, shwifty five.

I waz impressed but I would of liked the precaution a bit more forward
I had trouble locking on to a bass drum but this is heading in the right direction.

Cheers for the reveiws, Id like this to be longer too, but not sure where to take it without taking away the impact of the ending. Plus this was a lot of work to get it this far and Im feeling a bit worn out from it all.
The tweeking is a bit of both, the drum fills are done in Reaktor but the reverb is mostly automation.
Not sure what you meen by precaution Lightning flash. I guess you meen percusion but even thats a bit vague. If you meen the rimshots and stuff then I guess thats a judgement call as my intention was for the track to meld as a whole rather than individual parts to be overly dominant in the mix, but thanks for the comments and for taking the time to reveiw.
I might try to make this longer at some point but for now I'm just gonna enjoy what there is.
Yeah equipped but I'll probably change it again at some point so dont worry too much, That Shwifty five thing is funny as hell though.

Sick track dude, feeling the sample work. Great use of the amen, just needs to be brought up a bit i think, but could be the mp3. The drum edits are tight and the intro was banging! You used some sick effects in the begining definetly felt it but I think the track would stand out better with some new school drums. Sick

intro is nice.... really like the sounds your using... the water drops at the start was cool. some cool sfx in there.... the drum edits are pretty cool. just using a loops or did u write the drums.
that evol vox sample is cool.
i agree with the new skool drums idea.
i dont think it drops that well, i didnt really know when it dropd, it wasnt noticable. maybe some eq work needed on the drums n bass. wasnt pounding.
but the intro is gold. nice work there.
7/10

One question where you planning on using this to mix. This is really hype with your amen edist thats definetly a good sign that you have excelent drum programming skills. maybe it's just way to far behind in time. If it were 1995 maybe it would be rocking like woah. From what i can tell you seem like you know what you are doing with programming. I personally wouldn't buy it to mix maybe to have play in the background or somthing. It's definetly hype in it's own element but i bet you can come harder and not so 190 bmp.

shit...
man this was pretty awesome soo to say. Some really weird shit. As a matter of fact, in all my time of hearing drum n' bass I'm not sure I ever quite heard anything like this. Extremely complicated and mind boggling while maintaining a professional feel to it. Shit, I'm kinda in the same boat as everyone else
as I can't really give an in depth analysis on this as you seem to have put your own style in to it, but as far as wanting to know whether I appreciate it, hell yes. This was creative as all hell, especially how you could sample little everyday things and make something like this. Awesome edits on the drums too man, not something I'd play at my next party man, but something I can mos def appreciate! got my vote...10/10

I didnt really write this tune with with the intent of it being played in a normal DnB set, however I play sets with loads of tunes in a similar style, so prehaps it works in the right context.
To answer anfo D, The intro drums arent loops, Ive used a few slices but its all programed.
Not really sure what is ment by "Nu Skool" drums, prehaps its a reference to the use of the amen beats in a jungle kinda way, but to be honest, I do prefer the jungle beats over drum and bass beats, their more interesting, and I feel that the transition from jungle to DNB took a step backwards in this area. I know this is just my opinion, but I dont think this tune would work with a simple beat underneath it.
I'm not trying to write a drops tune either, I wanted a constantly growing dynamic which just keeps building until its got nowhere else to build, so it just collapses, the old tension and release idea but in a different way.
I probably could come harder but the dynamic and vibe of the tune isnt quite right for the strorming bass lines etc, maybe if I continue with it I'll try to change this somewhat. I think of it more as a jazz style tone poem than a Big bass stormer.
Thanks for the honest opinions though. Before posting this I knew that not everyone was going to like it, but I like for people to hear what I'm trying to do with the DnB style.

Yeah I stopped shroomin about 6 months ago, would like to know what this sounded like on halucinagens though. I guess its a reflection on the amount of people at raves who are on something or the other, I want my set to scar them for life!
For a good laugh check out generation filth by Squarepusher, Not a serious tune by any stretch, but fucking funny, and I see where hes coming from.
