Been thinkin about the bigger picture
such as drum n bass in general and the underground aspect of it all.
I can think of my own reasons for drum n bass being underground
But I get annoyed when it all gets a bit militant
Like - Whats wrong with drum n bass crossing over into mainstream?
Why do only a select few get chart pushes - like shy and t power
If they can do it - can't we?
And why do we all moody each other off with comments like:
sell-out, thats a non judgemental comment relating to any of us here by the way!
Be interested in getting some other thoughts, comments etc
Can't be just me that notices all this kak going on!
Heres one to think about. when 'shake your body' hit the dex
It was'nt the heads that cleared the dancefloors!!

i kinda like the exclusive ness of it al ... at least from a dj/producer standpoint.
I loathe a lot fo main stream music, mostly because al of it is garbage, and the other thing is i hear it EVERYWHERE!
and thats not something i want DNB/JUNGLE to become.

well you make music to please your audience right? you should, at least.
and dnb producers have a lot more ease producing for people they know that are gonna be down with their stuff at the drop of the beat...instead of someone who's gonna have to be eased in with vocals, more poppy melodies/structure and the like.
and sometimes when producers try to go mainstream with an underground style *cough* kosheen *cough* excuse me.
they change.
and theres other things too...
in some places, the united states for sure, art is becoming really, really controlled. the war against sampling and all that...so thats why we want to stay underground over here.
and almost the only way to get average people to listen to dnb in the US is to rap in it.

Well, simply that it changes the music in a way that I DON'T LIKE AT ALL... And the party crowd changes with it. Last night was like invasion of the Barbies. Fuck that!

well decoder and substance did really fuck up when they created kosheen, and sold over a half million records and lined their pockets. must be such a shit life having a fuck off big studio with the latest gear to make whatever tunes you like in whatever style you like in.........
hmmmm.....anyone who says they would turn down the oppurtuninty to sell a load of records is talking from their testicles!!!
wake up call people.....dnb is not underground anymore, it hasnt been underground since about 1996/97.....it gets played in main stream clubs right around the planet....this thing is global, just look at the number of websites arround and the number of members they have, why do you think your 14 yr old bother (for example!) knows what it is!?!?!. why do you think pendulums album will chart??!?!? it sellls because it has an audience....how can anything that has a global audience be classed as underground......in fact.define underground for me .....ok it does bring a bunch of barbies into the clubs....but yknow success has its drawbacks.....just slam on some dom n roland and theyll all run for the chillout room anyway.
dnb is mainstream, im not talking madonna or britney mainstream.....but there is a reason why many of the labels are subsidiaries of big companies (prototype recordings - grooveriders hard and dark/dirty etc etc label - owned by that global piece of scum known as SONY )

Yeh when it comes to mainstream , dnb gets fucked up .
Remixes and all that to make it public atractive and so on ... fuck that.
Then the real core of dnb dissapears and the pop's left.
...anyway that's my opinion.

I think drum and bass will never reach such mainstream heights as techno, house, the rest.. it's bpm is simply too fast for the majority
death/speed metal and grindcore never became mainstream too. lol

Full time job. Thanks mate ...
I think you are a little dissallusioned with the whole thing. And the shit part of it is that you probably dont have a leg to stand on. There is still an underground in the greater DC metro Area, and to places beyond.
I also think you are a fool. Copying while not innovative does lead to the basic foundation and building blocks of what you need to be a good producer... Im not sayin that you should just copy copy copy.
Learn what you need to know and THEN go off and be inovative....
