Yeah, so lately I have been experementing with running bass sound through a vocoder... start by creating the grimiest bass sound possible, saws ans squares work best. Then run it through the vocoder, control the vocoder with any sample (voice works the best). Tweak it so it is not understandable....
I have been getting some really interesting results, maybe one o theez days I'll post some short clips er sumthin...
Anyone else ever try this or ever heard of it?

Yeah man, I've been a big fan of the DC vocoder for some reason. I remember I tried running a nasty ass 808 bassline stab through it, but just ended up sounding like shit, but it was pretty interesting, especially if you spend some time tweaking the parameters. maybe different vocoders would do better results tho.

why? it comes out more muddled. i like sharp basslines.
i mean, would be cool for a smooth one.

nah , you have to try the "mda Tracker" !!
>Select like a vocal or a melody in your loop
>Select "mda Tracker" in the mixer-master
>Select "Square" and lower the "Trnspose"
Then set "Mix" to 100 %

I've done a bit of vocoding in the passed and I always planned of vocoding some basslines to see what that would do, but I never seem to acually get to it...

Another similar effect is to put a bass synth through a hp filter and then a ring mod. If you set a low frequency on the ring mod, and sweep the filter cutoff you can get a vocal effect. Takes a bit of fidling to get right but sounds really cool.
