They are stealing the world, and they want to clean their image of stealers by organizing this kind of concerts.
quote: |
John Pilger wrote:
“At present, for every 1 dollar of "aid" to Africa, 3 dollars are taken out by western banks, institutions and governments, and that does not account for the repatriated profit of transnational corporations. Take the Congo. Thirty-two corporations, all of them based in G8 countries, dominate the exploitation of this deeply impoverished, minerals-rich country, where millions have died in the "cause" of 200 years of imperialism. In the Cote d'Ivoire, three G8 companies control 95 per cent of the processing and export of cocoa: the main resource. The profits of Unilever, a British company long in Africa, are a third larger than Mozambique's GDP. One American company, Monsanto - of genetic engineering notoriety - controls 52 per cent of the maize seed in South Africa, that country's staple food. Blair could not give two flying faeces for the people of Africa. Ian Taylor at the University of St Andrews used the Freedom of Information Act to learn that while Blair was declaiming his desire to "make poverty history", he was secretly cutting the government's Africa desk officers and staff. At the same time, his "department for international development" was forcing, by the back door, privatisation of water supply in Ghana for the benefit of British investors. This ministry lives by the dictates of its "Business Partnership Unit", which is devoted to finding "ways in which DfID can improve the enabling environment for productive investment overseas and... contribute to the operation of the financial sector". Poverty reduction? Of course not.” (New Statesman, 22/06/05)

dont get me wrong im not into conspiracy theories, and im not being insensitive.....but the IRA bombed london for years.but they never had all day tv coverage.....thats the thing which really frightens me now.....the fact that its so heavily publicised, covered by every uk tv station all day long....

I'm not big on this g8 shit i have to say: i think its pathetic, for example, that the hardcore anochist protesters just got waylaid by a bloody awful pop concert. the english are never as good as the continentals - im thinking here particularly of the french - at saying no. when the g8 was held elswhere there was so much trouble . . .
However, im not big on the save Africa bullshit either. we were blamed for involving ourselves with them: fair enough, we leave. BUt now we have to be blamed for what they get up to afterwards?
Bombs today though, i have to say are unsuprising. OLympics, G8 everything. And LOndon had to get hit sometime. I'm almost glad its "out of the way".
At the moment though, they're making out that it wasnt too bad, not too many casualties. I have to say that I'm chatting to some spanish kids im teaching as my summer job: and they say that exactly the same happened in Madrid. It was only very late in the day that the public became aware of the full extent of teh casualties. Man, I used the underground through KIngs Cross only this morning!!!!

myea.. it's sad.. from both sides. It's a war without a clear good guy and a clear bad guy imo..
