well i was trying to post a link to a free distortion unit......but the links broken so.........
anyway saturation is basically a way of distortiing things, its pretty extreme.........it originally came from ye olde day of tape. but is now emulated with plug ins.......check out psp vintage warmer .....does a good job

imo the phatest distortion is the Fruity Blood Overdrive !
With that PreAmp & Gain you do the same thing .
It's like you over amplitude yo bass and then turn the volume down.
and maybe with a litle compression it should sound like a freeking dino.

yeah that fast distortion just fucks up your bass instead of a nice distortion. I only use in special cases.

again the PSP MixSaturator with the bass setting cranked up and full tape distortion is the phattest for bass.
