Ez everyone . . . right, I know its pathetic to start DJing again at my age (19).
In my defence I had decks when I was like 13 - 16, just never really had teh money for a good set of vinyl, so can mix and that, and then i rtaded the whole set in for an eigtht of draw or something similarly ridiculous . . .
Anywayz, nowadys what with the internet and that, I can get access, via stuf flke beatport and that of course
, to much more fresher tunes, and much more of them, so im thinking to take it up again, but with CD decks
sorry. So can anyone recommend any good ones? NOot like £900 quid a pop ones, but you know im willing to go fairly high on them. That and advice on a good but chepish mixer would come in very handy.
Thankee

check out the numark cdx. Not as expensive as the pioneers. I think your probably looking at about £ 450 - £500 a piece.

yeah i know i know. vinyl though is gonna cost me a lot more time and money . . . and its not like im thinking of doing this anywhere else than the bedroom really, its just for fun.
still though looks like im definately gonna have to shell out the better part of a grand, even minus a mixer. So basically its an either or between this and going to India . . .
anyway, thanks for the suggestions

had a go on that at expo and thought it was pretty shite. tiny jog wheels with no feeling tracktion at all - they feel really loose & just spin & spin. I found it hard to cue up the track. crossfader wasnt much cop either.

Technics make a nice one too, the SL-DZ1200. Unlike the pioneers the platter really spins, so you can cue and scratch exactly the same as with vinyl.
It can even play back MP3's from SD cards, imagine arriving at a party, taking two tiny SD cards out of your wallet and start spinning a 4 hour set

He doesn't mean inserting a SD with a mix, but mixing seperate MP3s from the card... Same as mixing from CDs imo...

The Enemy (Evol Intent) did a 100% CD set when I saw him. He explained:
- Less hassle, easyer to take along
- They don't ask questions at the airport. If you have krates full of vinyl they tend to think you're looking for work...

i have to say that the majority of arguments people use against cd mixing and that, as far as im concerned, seem to be just because its traditional, and they've invested so much time in it and that. it makes sense though, for a poor bugger like me, in many ways, to go for it because its so much less hassle and expense, and at t the end of the day does exactly the same job . . . or does it?

I've allways been quiet pro-cd myself too, but if you want to spin music like dnb at some point you will have to at least combine CD's and vinyl. And yess a lot of that is because of traditions and some screwed situations in music business, but there just isn't anything we can do about it unfortunately.
Now to get ontopic:
First thing you should decide is whether you want single tabletop players or a 19" rack double player. For the 19" doubles the choice is easy: Go for denon, period. On tabletop's there is some more discussion. The technics had some firmware problems causing the sound to trip when the scratch function was used together with one of the special pitch functions. I don't know if it is allready solved. If you want to stay low-budget the new pioneer cdj200's are probably a good choice. If you want top gear, go for the cdj1000's. Gemini (I know not the best rep) was working on a combined cd & vinyl player, might be very interesting if you are looking for new gear.

If you want to play yer own tracks out, CD is the way to go. Also you can put anything on CD...And if you have trouble finding certain tracks (vinyl only) record 'em yourself (from Vinyl to CD). I have been concidering getting a set of CD decks myself, just for fun. I have never really been to into spinning....more just producing tracks. Those Techniques look pretty cool....
