Everywhere you look, you hear people tellin vinyl sales have dropped dramaticly.
Most of them tell it is becus of the fast raise of mp3 and also becus of "big" dj playin cd-only sets with cdj1000's, so that people wanting to become a dj think it's cool to dj with cd's and cdj's.
At the other hand, i've never seen so many people buy vinyls and vinyl being featured as being "hip", as there was an article in certain magazine's tellin where to buy vinyl and record players...
I support what Mampi Swift and Friction tell about it, as they told in Knowledge: they both dont like cdjs, Swift says it's mainly becus droppin a record when u only have 5 seconds, it just aint possible with a cdj. Friction told us he'd only use a cdj when he didnt had teh time to let the track pressed on dubplate.
Vinyl will never die, I tell ya.
And if big record companies come up with more unplayable cds becus of the anti-copy protection it'll only grow.
What ya think?

record sales are down becuase of how expensive it is to press vinyl now...the numbers dont add up anymore...and if the distributors even make money let alone the label and the artist...its a surprise...unless its a super big hit track...or from someone well named out...vinyl sales wont be what they used to be...there is too much technology out there...but there will always beteh crowd that only buys vinyl...such as my self ....i boycot cd decks and the use of the CD stuff...i hate it...

whoever told you that is a liar...talk to a distributor and a label...its a much bigger investment tha you think...thats why its so hard to get a track signed now...cause its not just the label thats investing...ist the distributors...

well the reason cds are being played more is because a lot of labels/djs know each other......the scenes arent as wide spread as people like to think..so their sending more cds and high quality mp3s to each other......the djs with the freshest tunes are the ones who get the work(.obviously they have to be good)........thats why your local john doe dj spins the latest releases and is a local dj....and thats why andy c spins pre releases months before (sometimes years) their released and is known worldwide.......
i luv vinyl.....but its dying.....and at a more rapid rate than you think.....
and with things like numarks cdx it takes about 3 seconds to load.....plenty of time!!!! and most djs have their sets planned anyway......

its funny you mention Andy C because he is one of the few big dj's who almost never uses cd's. As for the reason he is so big, yes he has loads of dubs but so do loads of other lesser known dj's. I think the primary reason is that he's an amazing dj, probably the best mix-dj around, he used to be a big time producer (Origin Unknown, Ram Trilogy, solo...), has Ram....
As long as there are people who prefer vinyl it ain't going nowhere. Not that i have anything against cdj's or mp3's, its just another medium and its good for people who don't have decks and don't buy vinyl and would have no acces to tunes otherwise.

yeh, but friction cuts a lot of dubs too, and still he'd use a cdj once in a time, if he didnt had the time to get that tune cut on dub

i will make sure that vinyl will never die. so will all of the dj's of the world. sure cd's will become very pop. they are soooo..... easy to get. the chance you will see more cd's than vinyl is a good one. every day is more digital. go figure. i love it. i love my computer. i love my korg synth. but the computer wins. digital will win. vinyl will still survive. spin on.

Vinyl Sale will slowly drop off, and the reality is that we shouldn't be too sad about that. Its a lot cheaper for people trying to break in to the business to produce cds, and while this might lead to a lot of substandard material being released that just means Djs will have to look that bit harder for the good tunes, and its hardly anything new, im sure anyone else here from the Uk whose was into Jungle in the early days will agree that 90% of the tunes from that era were poorly produced, its only the classics that survive. I love the "feel" of a vinyl when I djing but im just as happy to use Cd if it means I can play my own tunes without playing £50 for a dub. I dont think vinyl will ever completely die but ignoring everything else just for the sake of tradition seems kinda weak to me.
