Someone told me yesterday about tuning drum kits so they are playing a chord, i.e. the bass drum plays a C, snares a D# and the hats a G so it's a C minor chord.

I'd never thought of it before but it seems quite obvious now.

Does anyone else tune their kits? If so how do you do it? I’ve been using the spectrum analyser in soundforge to see what note it is, changing the pitch and adding the note to its name. The only problem is it takes a while, I suppose I’ll just have to train my ears properly.

BTW if anyone wants a tuned 505, 707, 808 or 909 kit send me a pm and I'll sort you out.

hmmmm, interesting.
I understand the value of tuned drums, but only in relation to the rest of the songkey/chords/melodies/... not in relation to the other drumkits..
Gonna try it sometime tho

I sometimes pitch the snare to get the right tone, but other than that...

the bass drums really the only one you need to worry about in dance music, and maybe congas and bongos.....but at the same time it doesnt always matter
