now, i've been thinking about a €500-€700 pc, is that possible with that AMD Athlon XP 64-bit 4000+ and two harddisks (one 80GB, second one 200GB)?
[/little bit offtopic] |
Price of a AMD 4000+ is around 470 euro for the processor alone
Add 100 euro for windows and 140 for the two drives and you are already above your budget...
I could build you the following 64-bit system for 685 euro, but you'd have to buy your own copy of Windows XP (=100 euro extra).
- cheap but fancy 'game' case with side window
- standard 380W PSU
- ASUS K8V-X mainboard
- AMD Athlon 64-bit 3000+
- 1GB DDR400 RAM
- Maxtor 80GB + 200GB hard disks
- Lite-On 52x CD-writer (DVD-writer +25 euro)
- NVidia G-Force 4 MX 440 64MB graphics card (basic but more than good enough for audio apps)

sweet water has pretty good facory direct computers made for music audio. better than getting a dell direct, or something. about same prices. |
They are either way too expensive or those prices are outdated. I mean compare it to my offer...
- Pentium 4 3GHz (my offer: AMD 64-bit 4000+)
- 1 GB RAM (2GB)
- 200GB in 2 HDs (800GB in 3 HDs)
- on board 64MB VGA chip (a blazing PCI-E Sapphire RX600 pro)
- etc etc, they even don't supply Windows XP Pro with their top of the line $1900 PC
Is not even worth half that price

Lol you mean like IRQ conflicts etc? That stuff doesn't happen no more since Win98 came out. If you want to I can do a couple of tweaks to tune the OS (like turning off a couple of unneeded services) if you think it is really important to make it start up 1 second faster and saving 0.01% CPU time
All the parts are the best ones you can find, no run off the mill shit here, I mean it costs bloody 2000 euro!! To reach that price some of the stuff in it costs 3x as much, just for a bit more quality, eg the Plextor writer and a very good case that costs over 150 euro
Check out the specs of the mainboard on the asus homepage. It's their top of the line model, it comes with:
- Dual RAID with support of up to 12 (TWELVE) hard disks and several RAID modes (choice between complete redundant safety or extremely high transfer speeds)
- Support for DUAL PCI-express graphics cards. So you can use either 4 screens on this puppy, or combine the power of two top of the line graphics cards for really fast rendering. More for game freaks, but hey it's their top model so it's nice to have.
- 2 firewire ports
- 10 USB2 ports (yes, 10)
- 8 channel audio
- S/P-DIF digital audio on coax and optical
- DUAL gigabit LAN-connectors

Thats gonna be really hard.
You probably will need more than that
- Your old motherboard is probably unusable, so you'll need a new one
- Your ram will probably not fit the new motherboard, so you'll need new ram
- Your case might not be ATX (the size of the new motherboard) so you'll need a new case
- Your powersuply will probably not have enough power for the new processor, so you'll have to buy thatone too...
I bought new parts. Got me:
- AMD 64 3000+
- 1GB Kingston ram
- Zalman silent cooler
- Asus A8V mobo
- Silent powersuply
- New videocard (ATI Radeon 9550, the cheapes they had
)
- New Case Masters case
Cost me about €530, so with €700 you'll be able to get a better processor, but not that good...

Just make sure your motherboard and CPU have the same socket type

They supply decent machines, but they do cost a lot. I build my own, with the same components for a fraction of the price...

Just for the record, I'm not building cheap PCs anymore. The profit margin was too low to make it worthwhile to waste my precious time on, and they are not much fun to build too
I do still make high end 64-bit AMD systems from 1200€ upwards, but I only have time to make a couple a month. The waiting time is around 10 days now.
And I also don't do detailed personal offers anymore for people who think about getting one but end up getting the parts from my list themselves and letting their nephew put it together for 50€ less. It takes about 2 hours to make an offer, so only mail me when you are dead serious about buying one and you have the cash ready upfront.
They still come with 2 years full guarantee, are put together with great care using the best components available and are usually hundreds of euros cheaper than equivalent systems from online shops. And if you want a quad core opteron system I will personally deliver it for free in the whole of europe
