Ok, just wondering...
I've got an Akai 4000DS MK2 inside my "stuff room"

Dunno if it still works, but since back tehn technology was still made to last...
Can this baby provide me some analogue warmth, compression and distortion?
I've seen Sub Focus usin a tape-recorder somewhat like this in knowledge mag...

toys like a mc-303 in the original box, and a oberheim OOB, looking on ebay for the tape recorders form akia and there's some m9's for sale for 12 bucks... i was gunna get one with 22 m left, but instead of decided i have no clue what it does. would that help?

tough, there was still a battery operated toy synth inside all the mess Big Grin

but i think i'll have to wait for a new computer to put that lovely piece of technology in use. my pc is now connected to my amp by a cable that splits a headphone out into a red-white stuff (to put in the amp)..
And that gives some 'bmmmmmmmmmmmmmm' and my computer itself generates one hell of a lot of hiss.
If i'm makin a track wearing my headphones, i sometimes really just have to stop becus teh hissing becomes to tiring...

The AKAI reel-to-reel machine will give you loads of analog warmth, and if you use a fresh tape, set the audio levels properly and clean the heads it will give you no hiss. Try it, you will be astounded of the increase in sound quality Wink

A new tape for it costs less than $2 and a bottle of cleaning alcohol for $1, so you have nothing to lose Big Grin

The pro versions of this thing (2 track 1/4 inch as opposed to 4 track 1/4 which your machine is) are still used in mastering studios today. They are completely hiss free BTW.

nononono cassetes (magnetic tapes) dont go high frequency-wise, only 38Khz I think so you lose more than you gain

don't know about metallic tapes tho Ive heard they are exceptional quality

i like the psp mixsaturator for tape saturation distortion, i sometimes think "i am going to break it if i do this, than rember it's not real, but just a computer program. it's a pretty phat sounding distortion.

bass comes out very good on my casettes i record...high tones not.

woooow, fuckin shit went to the city to see if they had those reels overthere, and the only ones they've got cost a mutha fuckin 38€...
guess i'll have to buy them trough Thechronic's linkie..

this is wtih 100%drive, +12db input -12db output, and 100% warmth at 75hz.

that's pretty good sounding?
