Well, I am in for this. Beside that, OggVorbis is not even 5% widespread as mp3 is so we would not have much benefit from it...

I think only mp3 is allowed because it's the moste widespread audio compression. WAV's would take forever to download and suck too much of the site's bandwith I guess.

the tools used for compression are very important for the quality of the compressed file, however, the tools used to playback the files are maybe even more important... i wouldn't want to listen to regular winamp anymore now that I have winamp DFX, it makes your sound so much better, more like when you use hi-fi stuff.
as for ogg, it's to compress some game audio. but i've even seen more games using mp3 compression, mp3 is very widespread not only for playing but also for burning to analoge cd and saving to... options.
they all have it

how many of you have ever made ogg vorbis mode1 wave files?...
i know what im talking about, ive seen how screwed up the higher frequencys get in an mp3 if you incode it at a lower bitrate, you dont get that problem with ogg vorbis mode1.
the way that i incode these mode1 files is i load a wav file into the wav editor then save as the ogg vorbis mode1 wav.
i cant upload at the .ftp thing for some reason,
im using a public computer...
but i do want to e-mail this sample pack to the chronic,
and some of the drum loops that i made were ogg vorbis mode1 wav files in that .zip that i have ready for him.
so we will all see what i mean if he replies to my PM baout whaat addresst o mail this to, then if he puts my samples on the downloads page.
and no, the ogg vorbis mode1 wavs are not big like you think,
its not PCM wav, its small like mp3, but smaller though.

OGG Vorbis was an experiment that was done years ago and is abandoned even by the people that created the format.
MP3 has been extensively developed and finetuned for years, and I'm very positive that the latest versions of LAME give equal or better sound quality than any OGG encoder.
PS In the beginning when I started running the site I allowed WMA and OGG files, but I got so many mails from people that couldn't play them that I vowed never to support them again

ogg is nice indeed, good quality with very low bitrates, but there's not enough support, and as thechronic said: it's dead

it would be nice to have a low bitrate streaming format as well as mp3 so you can quickly browse through ppl's tunes. like the promos n dogs. you can tell if its a good track even when its low quality and i reckon ppl would get alot more listens.
