i don't know exactly what's going on, but inst clipping above 0db?

i have db meters sying that, and there's "clipping" but when i listen to it there's no clipping, but whats more puzzling, is that all my FFT show no clipping on any of the levels. even FFT with db meters....

i figured it out i think, it's mearly something peaking fast, and FL db meters show peakers, but it must be faster than is shown.... or something. the trouble of dnb is that clipping happends in a half second.

in sound forge (any version I think) there is a "clip detection" and it's under Tools menu

Depends on the algorythm that is used for the meter displays.

Some meters show clipping sooner than others as there are several methods for displaying clips:
- when a single sample reaches 0dBFS or a close value like -0.5dBFS - these are the most sensitive clip meters.
- when multiple samples in a row have a value of 0dBFS or a close value - these are less sensitive but more useful.

If clipping occurs for a very short time (a couple of milliseconds) it is inaudible and not to worry about.

As always, just depend on your ears, if it sounds OK go for it. Investigate parts of the audio where the meters display clips, and decide if something needs to be done about it or not after critical listening.

When you are producing a track it's usually not a problem to keep a safe distance from clipping on individual channels. Keep their average level around -15dB or so, that will give you lots of headroom for clipless peaks and gain increases if they are necessary.

avg db for a track should be about -3db headroom?

i'd say....

but i think i figured out the REAL problem, it's mixing with volume not set high enough, so i was trying to make everything ouder, without realising that i should just make my coimputer volume high enough, so that i could hear a decent leveled sound.....

in short, i turned down master volume when i was video chatting with my girlfriend.

i always set it to 3/4 master and 3/4 wav.

if the soundcard volume is at a higher set I get "audio-out-clipping" in Reason which dissapears once I lower it Confused

now that's some fucked up stuff imo

Exactly, keep some headroom (eg 3dB - 10dB) on your stereo bus, save it as a wav and then you have all freedom to play with the final levels while mastering it.
