Yo evereyone
I use Fruity loops to make my drum n bass, but before I make my first song to share on DNB.be I want to be sure about the pitch of drum n bass, I always use 155 or 190 for faster dnb, but you guys know better than me so
please tell me what's the best pitch for what sort of dnb
Thanks anyway

There's no such thing as a 'standard', but usually the BPM varies from about 170-180. At least I always use a value between that for DnB.

the quicker you make it , the worse it sounds when you pitch it up on vinyl.........so 174 is more than enough for dnb

I usually start at 175bpm...
and lower or upper that with a few bpm's depending on the groove
(190bpm is way to fast for me, unless it's some kinda breakcore thingie )

as do i...most sign tunes are usually between 175-180...sometimes kryptic minds and leon switch like to make tunes at lilek 185...but dont make them at 190...too fast can make it difficult for dj's to match, for the faster the speed, the more the accuracy falls off due to pitch change...meaning the faster the tune, the greater the pitch change...

I usually work on 170 or 160 BPM. Slower BPMs provide clearness in sound and + can be mastered more easily.

About the pitch - I never change the master pitch setting (although I tried it a few times after a finished tune - wow! You can make DARKSTEP or FUNKY dnb just by changing the master pitch up or down!) but when I imagine a tune with its genre, I work all the sounds in that pitch (it comes up by it self).
When you change the master pitch, some sounds tend to dissapear, like hihats or bass linez. The bass linez sound like sub-bass linez, and the hihats like ghost snares
Or when you raise it - the basses are like synth linez, and hihats like some flickering electric charges... (u know, half-life stuff)...
It goes like this:
Highest - Jump-up, Neurofunk
High - Funk dnb, a piece of normal dnb, trancestep
medium - lite drumnbass (ltj bukem), normal drumnbass
Low - jungle, dark drumnbass, techstep
Lowest - darkcore, darkstep, industrial

The tempo is a personal choice,
doubling the tempo will make each beat played twice as faster,
and have double amount of beats / minute of per second.
So why would you want to do this?
If you want to work very precisely with placing your sounds.
Doubling the tempo will somehow 'add' space to place sounds, because it's not really how fast your song goes, it's just how fast everything comes after eachother.
You can make for example a nice quick highhat loop at 250BPM, where you each time let a beat in between but at the end of the pattern you also use the beat you let in between.
That wouldn't have been possible without this extreme tempo.
