I think you might like Fusion rather than jazz. Fusion sounds more modern, has a stricter rhythm and is more accessible to the newbie
Check out the big names in fusion, such as Miles Davis, Marcus Miller (very funky
), Weather Report, Stanley Clarke, Herbie Hancock (check out one of his new tracks - Chameleon
)
For true jazz, check out these styles: hard bop (eg Horace Silver) and swing (oldskool uptempo jazz, eg Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington) and ragtime and boogie woogie (old dance jazz from 100 years back).
It takes some time to get into, but after a while you can really appreciate it. And go to see live jazz bands!! Jazz is a style which you have to see live, not listen to at home

I'm liking jazz for a while allready, but I had something uptempo in my head and I couldn't find that exact style.
I like Louis Armstrong (but who doesn't?), Ella Fitzgerald (her voice
), John Coltrane,... (donno all their names)
Gonna check out your info asap!
Thx

There's also a couple of producers with jazz influences in DnB, eg Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, ...

What else is there to say...
I think the founders and mainly the biggest names are all mentioned.
Then there's the whole nu-jazz and modern fusion goin' on, but that would bring us to far (Compost, JCR,...)
The Blue Note series are always worth a listen amongst others (Counterpoint, Verve, ...)
Oh yeah, Marc Moulin did jazz in his early years and Erik Trufaz does nice things too

For those who are interested: in the Free record shop in Antwerp they are selling a lot of Jazz and Swing 3CD-boxes for the price of € 6. Donno if they are digitally remastered, but I guess it's worth checking out!
