PRODUCTION CONTEST V.3
Here it is, the third installement of mtldnb.com production contest. We had to go through a month offline for server issues but we are now back better then ever. Like some sort of zen buddhist sand painting everything has been been wiped out, so old members will have to create a new account. Shed your tears and move on...
This time we decided to push up the challenge a notch and do a remix of the Nine Inch Nails new single "The Hands that feeds" for their latest album "With Teeth". Trent Reznor as recently made public a samplepack containing samples from all individual channels to see what people could do with it. We beleive it will be a great challenge and a rare occasion for lots of members to have acess to this kind of materiel. Weve also added a few classic breaks to make your life easier.

Cool! Too bad about rule 1
Doing a remix is, imo, all about adding your own flavor to an existing track, and if you can't add your own sounds... All remixes could end up sounding very similar this way, no?

this is why i bow to them, all mighty and powerful, and yet enchantingly sexy people that did this.
did i mention i am going to see Trent live, in about, ooo 4 hours.
i can only use the samples, but i can strech and take differnt clips of a small segmant of wave, and shape and mold it into a reece line if i damn well want too, simpler than you can say, "simpler than you can say".
still trying tow ork with what munki gave us.....eerr
so this packs, got the amen brothers loop in there, hmm didn't know that trent used that.
dear god this has a lot in it. it's worth it simply for samples.
trent is a god among muscians, you got fucking metallica whining lieka bunch of pansy bitcihng little girls ooooh there downloading our musisc, and then you got god's like trent, that give away there entire fuggin song, track for track.
end 6lead vox is nice to listen to, his voice kinda goes like ateenager.
it's interesting listening to it all sepratetly. the chorus thickener, is him sinning in a high ptiched girly voice and deep whisper gruff the same line. works nicly.
i want to have sex with trent reznor. in a purly plutonic way.
everysong i do now, i will try to include these sounds.

lol.very good halph price......i bet trent would be shitting himself after reading that, . a plutonic way.
yeh right, u want to give him some special lurve by the sound of it.
dont get me wrong, hes good..but he aint THAT good.
the samplepack is ok, but some of them, such as the guitars have got little clips at beginning where theyve chopped them, doesnt really do me any favours.
if i do make a tune theres no way im posting it that sites compo though....i wanna use my own beats, the hats in here are good but thats about it.
and whats the fuckin point putting an amen in there???? and the sub.
waste of time....i hate to say it but a drum n bass mix of this is gonna be a little difficult and probably sound shit, the original is around 130bpm, not ideal , time stretching is gonna be really obvious wether u go up or down. not a bad bpm for breaks though.

i also worship trent reznor...
i'll probly not even try to remix this cuz of the bpm but i'm just gonna download the samples purely to have, as a crazed fan. it's a good song.
by the way, has anyone got their new album yet? how does it measure up?

I stretched them up (ok, that's not stretching, but whatever) to 176 and they still sound pretty good.
But indeed, I wanna use my own beats too. Who the fuck can do a whole DnB track with an amen as drums only? Not me anyway, not my style...

I CAN, and will.
nin was amazing.
nin was better than i expected.
got a pic of trent jumping in during the song "piggy" and crowd surfing.
moshed with all the other sweaty trent adoring fan's.
have a headach and actually awake 4 hours later for work.
the lights and the entire set-up was amazing, you honestly couldn't ask for a cooler stage preformance.
played for like 2 1/2 hours, and played every damn song you'd want them too.
i love nin.
got t-shirt, and buttons
i love nin.

I was thinking of doing a remix outside the compo, so using my own samples. The pack is indeed too limited, you can only use the originals and some classic jungle breaks, not enough to make a real DnB remix...

Haha......you guys are crazy.
60 Hz sine wave = Perfectly raw wave able to be formed into any waveform you wish!!! I made a reece out of it, anybody here ever heard of a shaper before? So I don't see any problems with that.
Tempo = 127.8 bpm Time stretched to 175.14 bpm sounds fucking perfect, seriously. Sony's timestretcher did a beautiful job with it, it sounds perfect. That main guitar riff at 175 makes me want to stick my head in a woodchipper.
Drums = He gives you perfect fucking drums for a DNB remix and you can just split them up into your own little drum kits and make your own fucking beats with them.
DNB + NIN = CRAZY FUCKING SHIT
He says no new samples, no new instruments, so WHAT?! You can still shape, mime, twist, reverse, bend, shift, split, cut, blast, snip, gap, clip, and fucking destroy anything you want to. I'd say he still leaves our options wiiiiide fucking open.
WOULD YOU BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS?
Fuck yeah I would
Edit: Just use your imaginations guys!! Anything is possible when it comes to sound.
Edit 2: I fucking love Trent Reznor....that man is a fucking God among Gods.
Respect your superiors......and Miseur Reznor is indeed our superior.

They're not what I like working with. The amen is still pretty OK, but the others...

Yeah, they're definitely not what I'm used to working with....but it's going to be one hell of a challenge to come up with a completely unique remix from the same set of samples everyone else is going to be using. But I'm going to do it.....I know I am.
I'm really anxious to hear your remix Surya
God....I can only imagine.

Still have to get started. Already speeded up the samples to 176bpm though, and synced them in Reason...
