I just got hold of Tracktor this cool software that lets you mix on your computer - and makes it pretty amazingly easy. I do realise that mixing on a computer is for pussys but at my ripe old age I'd feel like to much of jerk bying decks and vinyl and trying to become a superstar DJ
Its something you wanna have under your belt by sixteen or not at all I reckon. But now I've got this shit I'm begining to realise the appeal, its well stress relieving and a good excuse to just listen to music.
So after the lengthy preamble I'll get to the point. I plug my amp and speakers into the headphone jack. Does anyone know how the hell it is possible to have a seperate audio output for headphones, so that I can mix properly?

You need 2 soundcards for that...

I believe it's possible with a stereo splitter too. At least on virtual DJ it works with that (it's displayed in the configuration screen). Never tried it myself though...

Right thanks a lot lads
So I need two soundcards: but what about also the problem posed by the fact that I have only noe headphone output in my computer, and I'm using that for my monitor speakers?
Souns like an insoluble problem to me, but if you have any idea . . .

You don't really need 2 soundcards, usually a 5.1 soundcard also works. If you use the Asio driver you can normally select which signal goes to which outputs in your mixing program.

Yeah, I just got Traktor too, and it works with a 5.1 soundcard.
I did need to install some new drivers though (not the creative ones...), but that could also have something to do with my soundcard install.
But anyway, I can mix all kinds of songs now
I mean, I am able to do it, I dont have the skill to make it smooth... YET!
But it's really cool and addicting and stuff...

it's really three speeds. the tricks (I guess) you mention are done by automation (I know, sucks, ie. not realtime). but I guess some realtime fx could be achieved using two mice, or even a usb joypad
with analogue sticks
lol ,seriously, when I install/try out will post what Ive achieved

With djdecks you can use scratch interfaces such as finalscratch or the hercules dj console thingie, haven't tried it yet though.

Ahhh, what kind of mixin is that?! Put the songs, click SYNC and it matches the beats automatically. LAME
Anyway, put MASTER out on left stereo signal, put MONITOR out on right (or otherwise), put these to mono, and there you go - you have a mixing board... mono though.
At least this could be done with Virtual Dj.
for mixing I recommend MixMeister - awesome program, but sucks at recognizing too-much-no-kick-drum-beatz... if u know what I mean
