hey, as those of you who've listened to some of the MC'ing in my tracks (and the drop vocal in the orig. version of surora's introspection) will know, my microphone just isn't up to par. i don't work with much hardware, don't know much about the best of the best of things to be honest, so i was wondering if anyone could tell me of a pro quality and maybe even professional looking mic for the pc that you can plug right into the soundcard and get to recording with. there are some songs right now that i have really good ideas for but don't even wanna release until i can get my vocals sounding fresh. right now i'm working with some wiry-looking $10 piece of s*** labtec mic made for voice messaging, active chat and such, which basically means that the only real requirements to bring it up to top-quality in its field are to be able to produce sound that is audible and pretty much intelligible. and that it can do. only that.
so any of you that have suggestions for the kind of mic i'm looking for, as i really don't know anything about mics, please try and help me out here.
also i wonder if it just might be a technical problem, or if it might be something that can be fixed in sound forge? but, i really doubt it.

Lol. We did my selloutproject with a €10 mic too. But after some noise reduction and EQing on a very expensive desk, it sounds great acually

Handheld (stage) mics:
Shure SM-58: around 100 euro - a decent dynamic vocal mic for a small price.
Neumann KMS-105: around 550 euro - the best sounding handheld vocal mic ever
Large diaphragm condenser (studio) mics under 300 euro:
Audio-Technica AT2020: around 130 euro
Audio-Technica AT3035: around 200 euro
AKG C2000B: around 150 euro
AKG C3000B: around 275 euro
Rode NT-1A: around 200 euro
Rode NT-1000: around 300 euro
I'd go for a cheap condenser instead of the SM-58 for recording.
For on stage go for the SM-58. Or if you have some cash to spend buy a KMS-105, you will probably don't want another for the rest of your life.

go for the akgc3000,
but dont forget to get a pop shiled.......and dont let the muppets hold the mic,
and if you havent got a dead space to record in try sticking a mattress or some kind of thick foam behind (opposite) the direction the vocalist is singing towards...should cancel out any reflections.
