just more of a random comment, but i bet you guys got some great tips for them. Ghost snares are the lighter hits between the beats.
i found that for FL Studio 5 there's a Mul(multiplicator) feature in the time streching option for samples. Using this, and adjusting the pitch, usually a bit high pitched, makes amazing ghost snares, it both shortens and disfigures and pitch changes, all of which help make a undistingushable smaller snare from the original.
Also i have heard of shadowing, anyone know what that is or how to do it?

jsut tried that...sounds weird...deff an priginal approach to ghost snares...
i think shadowing is just the same concept..only adding a tiny amount of echo...what that does...id instead of you actually pasting the notes and droping ther volume...if you add the notes you want...and run the tiny bit of echo it adds ghosts to make for a tighter sound... but dont add too much ptherwise it will drown out the break (well not really drown out, but too much of your attention will be focused on the echo'ing ghosts)

like in The Police, how they had the dotted eight delay added to the snare?

try to add some short hats in between the ghost snares, that allways makes them sound more rolling
also play with the velocity of them sounds.
I usually take the same snare, filter it (hipass, low pass depends on the tune), make them shorter in the envelope. and add some more hats.
and don't forget about the open hihats, those bring the real flow in your beats.

If I want to use the same snare for my ghosts as the normal snare I make an envelope with the del, att, hold and decay set to 0, the sustain to the max and add some release, how much release you use depends on the sample really. Then in the piano roll I make really short ghost hits, normally 1/4 step, and play with the release to get a really short version of the original snare.
