getting samples of analog is a pretty good place to start. surya uses samples in his songs, as far as i know, all of his songs.
you can still splice and layer and filter them.
and MDASubSynth helps make any sampled a phat bassline.

If you want to learn how synths work , start with a modulair system . Normal synths make sound in almost every position of the knobs and its therefore not eazy to understand whats happening and whats doing what .
Synths are made of building blocks : Waveform generators ( VCO/LFO/ADSR/Keyboard ) and waveform shapers ( VCF/VCA )
A modulair system lets you free how you connect the building blocks . This can be extremely comlex and overwhelming at firts . But you start one step at the time .
eg. a simple VCA has 2 inputs and 1 output . The inputs need signal from a soundgenerator and the output you connect to a speaker . Try all the generator modules and you know what a VCA does . Then start adding the shaper modules ....
I think that VAZ modulair is eazyest to learn .

I agree with this, some of the best tunes ever were made on Amigas ffs. It's not what you've got its how you use it.
You can always sample vstis you know, you don't need to have a cpu hungry synth on all the time, you can just make a sound you like in it and sample it.

proccess it through decent mixing software.
well the minimum for comptuers to get is 2ghz, you can get 3ghz and up, so, judging by that, you have to get a new computer, NOW, if you havn't got a computer is over 5 years old.
it's relativly cheap to upgrade a computer instewad of buying a new one, and many tutorials nline how to do it. it's in fact extremely simple, just the power converter, is the hardest thing. everything else is plug n play, now and days.
