OK, my speakers just gave up, and I need replacements fast! Don't have heaps of cash, otherwise I would buy the B&W 604S3... (¤1300 approx)
Should be quite decent ofcourse...
What can I get for what prices?

Depends on the fact if you have a decent amp or not

I know, but a Marantz or shit like that should do the trick. Have a 2x 110w Technics amp atm. First the speakers, and if it doesn't satisfy me, new amp

Why are you so keen on hifi? Because of they put golden cinch connectors on them?
Hifi sucks imo. Never seen a studio with B&W or Bose. That's something to put at home or in a restaurant or something.

Bose sucs man.
B&W is what they use in the Skywalker studios, and in studio's like Hans Zimmer uses...
I've heard these and they realy sound superb, even at higher volumes. The bass is fantastic, and the mid and high are clear as a 6-years old pussy!

Exactly. That's the purpose of hifi. It has to sound clear
That's why they're not suited for making music on, cause when you play it to somebody who doesn't have B&W it will sound less clear
Pro monitors have a different goal, they don't try to sound as good as possible, but as neutral as possible. If you mix something and it sounds good on pro speakers it will normally sound good on anything.

Haven't got money for those B&W's anyway, so that'll be for later... Will pay Thoma in Ghent a visit tomorrow.
Btw, I don't only use my speakers for making music, also for listening

B&W also lasts forever, it's like the technics of hifi and boxes. I've still got the recordplayer and "amplifier" my grandmother bought 30 years ago. Still working like a charm and sounding cristal clear

If you often use your speakers at high volume the drivers (woofers and tweeters) are fatigued and need to be replaced. Luckily that's not expensive.
Good amps can last a lifetime, just replace the tubes from time to time

Second that, I like old material, I've got myzelf 2 B&W speakers, they are I guess about 30 years old but hell, they still make basses sound like
, and my amp (a Sansui) is even older, only had a prob with it once and the shop where I went to let it fix told me that they don't make that good material anymore

i'd suggest finding urself some secondhand genelecs, yamaha NS10M's (we got these in our homestudio, but they're getting kinda cranky), and the best i've heard so far is the ones we got surplus in the studio: Sound Project (master blaster, holland company, gonna search for some more info on these, these are the bomb !)
I got some technics speakers, creative speakers and two more others of i don't know anymore at home, but i haven't got a descent amp, i swear it's shite, having all those speakers and getting not even half out of it of what they're capable of ...

Mackie's are great, amazing sound, lots of power, especially with those subs, You could easily use them for a small to medium partie too. Unimportant detail, but I even like the blue led's
