either i get told use distortion, or use a better kick.
don't know how you can help me pick a good kick, but i need a warm distortion, what is a good one to use for kicks.
preferbly a VST or the likes. even though good distortion and digital may not cross, thers gotta be something.
most modelled ones are for 500hz-16khz and don't touch bass.

I use quadrafuzz for digital distortion . You can realy fine tune the distortion .

You don't have to always put a distorsion to get a really good kick. Use a compressor.
Ratio: 0.4
Gain: +3 dB
Attack: 0-15 miliseconds
Release: 0-15 miliseconds
This rocks the kick, but make sure you connect it to another compressor so it doesn't make distorsion.

quadrafuzz would be what i use, if i could edit it, some flaw in it when used in FL.
i'd use it for most all my drums for that warmth, it is good.

I sometimes use a plugin called Psp Audioware Vintagewarmer to add some warmth or distortion.

what i personaly do is use dynamics inside a wave editor, or a distortion vst, then export the distorted kick sound with reverb to a wave file and use EQ on it, all of that, instead of having the effects always being used on the sample and having them effects in FL's mixer thing i export with the effects into a sample
you see the reason why i do this is because when you distort or copress a sound it will ususaly have screwy db levels instead of just a sharper and taller wave shape, but if you export a distorted sample then the db wont be al screwd, and it helps to have it inside ur wave editor..
gotta go, tell me what you think of making samples VS using effects in a song instead of a procressed sample.

i know i should be using the sample function in fl more often, that would make it alot easier to shape the sound. hmmmm.

oh jeeze, i forgot to tell you all somthing very importent.
the BD usualy consists of two parts right?
its base tone and its initial percussion.
i make the actual hit sound and the base sound seporately then play the two sampels at once sometimes... or i conmbine them and save as 1 sample.
ever used a bitcruncher on a bd? it has its unique effect as well.

just find some good kick samples and use them, process just when it's necessary the most important thing is to fit it in the mix

mostly equaliser and compressor, common problem is bassdrum -> bassline conflict, to solve this use a bit of subtractive equalising on bassline in 100-150hz spectrum [depends on type of bassdrum] after some tweaking and practicing you will get it.

Yeah, and force the bass drum into a compressor with the bass line. In this way you will have a punch from the kick, without killing the bass line...but you should know what to tweak in the compressor.
