I haven't used wallpapers in years, speeds up windows a little bit. Shouldn't worry about it too much anymore, my PC is a monster nowadays
Anyway I like a blue background
I got 550GB on 3 HDs, an AMD Athlon 3000+ with 400MHz FSB, Asus V9900 TD Gforce FX5800 with passive cooling, 1.5GB of DDR400 RAM, Plextor CD-R/W, Plextor DVD-R/W, an RME 96/8 PAD, an Iiyama monitor and a full option motherboard with 8 USB ports, firewire, digital audio and the works in a thermaltake case with 7 fans

both were free.....express came with 'cakewalk home studio' which i used for a short period of time & adapted came with my M-audio soundcard. Adapted isnt bad - you get one of each device in the rack (except Malstrom), which for me isnt to bad coz I do all my sequencing in logic & only really use it for subtractor and occasionally Redrum. I find the reason sequencer a bit fiddly to use and I like my VSTs too much.....
