er........to much reverb maybe??
try using smaller room style reverbs instead of the hall ones......
you could try eq'ing each sound individually.....
but my only real advice is get hold of cubase sx....and rewire it through there....better eq and better quality vsti....and better sound quality!! the audio engine is much better than reasons.....sounds often get lost in the mix easily with reason

Why wouldn't you be able to boost the high end in Reason

Aren't you people aware of the plugins you put???
Wow, that is experimental (shakes hands).
Now, maybe your compresion phats the tune, try kicking out the compressor.

you got the master turned down to almost nothing, then the channels cranked up with the treb and bass CRANKED TO MAX.
without even playing the song, the thing to do is set thoes all back to normal, put master volume up to the normal spot.
now turn down the trebel and bass boosts on the mixer.
just on the context of the kicks. they really are what bring the sound down.
you have 4 kicks, cool, but you need one kick, to be deep, but still have punch in the mid section, without going into the bass.
the kicks randomly, fill the entire lower end, there's no set freq for them. got a nice kick with a little hat on it, another a bit higher up, with some fuzz, than a fat, House like kick, with a bit more mid section, going on. than another kick i almost missed, because i though it was more a snare. but it's a hit hat and a upper kick, more like a tom, or something.
ANYWAYS pick 2, or, just play one kick.
i didn't mess MUCH. just chenged the volume, and took out 2 kicks....
YOUR VERSION
sounded worse in reason... but louder i tihnk.
MY VERSION
okay, so it clips JUST a little, but sitll sounds like it's not next door. or even more than an inch away from your head, but still, master volume down even a notch more, it works.
hell i could turned down the tracks voume down a bit than fucking with the master. but still. before it didn't even cut intot eh orange on the master. clock down your Windows volume settings, NEVER the mixer's.
[emoticon]
[/emoticon]
lesson learned:
never fuck with the master volume. unless approved by a licenced master.

my suggestions go like this:
try a stereo inhancer in the master effects track,
use master EQ, experiment witht he EQ and see how it sounds as you boost versiou frequencys.

try IZOTOPE ozone 2 it`s a DX or VST plugin so you can run it from host sequencers or in soundforge...you kinda have to have the mix roughly where you want it for it to be effective...also if you don`t have a decent soundcard...mastering becomes next to impossible when laying many tracks....the sound just mudds out and sounds like shit....
i`ve been running reason 3 thru cubase and using blue tubes eq on the drums because it fattens the sound a lot and using timeworks mastering compressor on the main output channel....if you do a mixdown and then do another with just drums...then you can open the near identical tracks...again in cubase as audio and re eq everything and bring up the separate drum channel to taste...it works pretty good....just beefs the sound up more...still a good soundcard is the key to really squeezing the most out of software...don`t really matter how much you know about the engineering if you have a poo poo card

but one tip that has always stuck with me.
imagine the frequency spectrum as a large orchestra, where you have instrument from a large kettle drum to a tiny triangle and all those instruments in between.
they all need they're space to be heard. if you have too many drums they'll drown out the violins, too many violins drown out the cellos.
therefore if related to the frequency spectrum give all the elements of your tracks their own space and place.
a good way to do this is filters and eq. take away what you don't want.
probably stating the obvious but i have insomnia
edit: btw this thread is nothing to do with mastering it's to do with mixing. |
no it's not reason, he had the master volume all the way down and the mixer's all cranked up with the highest possible HIGh and LOW on them, making it so there was no MID in the song.
