In 1998 Konsta Tuomas Mikkonen was contacted by Paul Donald Rae, who was then International A & R at Norske Gram, Norways largest independent record company, to make some tracks for a Nordic electronica CD, to be released in 1999.
Konsta, who is from Kajaani in Finland and used the artist name Muffler , made a couple of funky tracks, which were immediately signed to the In.Disc label, as was Konsta as an artist for the label. The CD Meltdown Dance Files was released in May 1999.
Shortly afterwards, in late 1999, EMI Music bought Norske Gram and slowly but surely broke the company up piece by piece. The international dance department was closed down soon after and Rae started a new label / publishing company.
Muffler had always been a DrumnBass artist, he started making music in the early 90s and was a leading artist in the Amiga music scene. Rae, who has a musical background from the late 60s and was a pioneer for mixing and musical trends in the early 80s quickly realised that Mufflers DnB music was the only way to go. Together they started SighCo Records , label under RaezoR Sharp Music & Publishing in 2000.
Mufflers first release, the Somber / Fury 12 , was on Aphrodite and Mickey Finns Urban Takeover in 2000, followed by the Downfall / Nutcracker and Last Straw / Bleak 12s in October 2001.
Mufflers raging hard and nasty style has caused many heads to nod in appreciation and in 2003 matters got out of hand in a pleasant kind of way.
Urban Takeover launched the Muffler Recordings label with two 12s, Heaven / Sin and Smasher / Pull Tricks in June and a full CD Soundz of the Future , at an introductory low low price soon after.
But, it was difficult for SighCo Records to restrict Mufflers many talents to one label and Alpha Magic started releasing 12s under the a.k.a.s Axis of Evil and Unknown Soldier on Cell and Invader Recordings.
Tony Colman at Hospital Records also wanted in on the Muffler sounds and signed Flirt / What I Need to M*A*S*H, to be released under the a.k.a. Konsta . A new track Free Your Body will be released by Hospital in April 2004.
Moving Shadow has signed 4 tracks for a 12 E.P. called Cold World to be released in early 2004.
DJ Frictions Heavy Rotation is also releasing a 12 in April 2004 with the tracks Roll With U and Fire .
Muffler is a very prolific writer / producer and has collaborated on the Alloy release on Frequency at RAM.
With over 100 songs in 2003, there is no shortage of tracks to choose from.
Muffler is a very competent DJ and has shown his skills in many countries. This is the main problem area for Helsinki based Muffler. Travel costs are so high that most gigs are done at a loss or break even. Even so demand is high and several gigs in Germany recently proved to be very successful. The call from the mighty US of A is getting stronger.
Mufflers style is hard to pin down, he is master of many genres under the DnB umbrella. Top DJs too many to mention carry Muffler 12s and he is high respected as a producer of quality tracks. As the A & R manager for SighCo Records hes looking for new and established talent for the first vinyl and CD releases on SighCo Records due in the autumn. So, for a 22 years old, this is definitely a man to watch!

Phat Phonk was founded in 2001. They are a party organisation, with a big focus on drumnbass. They try to promote drumnbass in Holland and try to help pushing the scene here to a higher level.
They started with a monthly night called Solid, at the Winston International in Amsterdam. This night featured Dutch upcoming talent next to the bigger names in the scene. After two rollin years the night was called to an end earlier this year.
While running this monthly night, They got more involved with the other players in the scene. They came up with the idea to organise the first Dutch Drum n Bass Awards to get the scene more united and more respected in the outside world. Drum n bass is one of the major dance industries in Holland, but the media have never really picked it up. They figured these awards might bring a bit of a change in that situation. The first edition, featuring Photek and about fifteen of the best Dutch DJs, was a great success.
Besides the d&b awards and solid, Phat Phonk organised a few one-offs, like their entry in the Legalize Street Rave 2003, ravin with their own d&b truck through the streets of Amsterdam.
Phat Phonk is run by two DJs: Yvo (aka E.F.O.) and Guido (aka Gyon-V). Yvo has been organising parties for ages. He played throughout the whole country in his raw jump-up style, but has shifted the focus of his attention to the organising part of the dance scene. Gyon-V broke trough only one and a half year ago, with his fresh liquid party sound. Together they form a good mix between ambition and experience, working hard to improve the Dutch d&b scene.
