And now, question that has been buggin _me_ for ages...

What's the reason why oldskool pianos don't sound as real pianos? And how to make real piano sample sound like an happy oldskool piano? I tried to use a phaser but this doesn't provide that flavour.

Good example of what am I talking about is this sample from Breakbeat Paradise -> click here to download <-

Anyone knows what effect should I use?

greetings

Sounds like a quite normal piano to me, with some strange chords used, and the decay and release way to short so sound normal.

Use electric pianos or honky tonk pianos Big Grin

A good source for it are sound modules, not samples. Try to find a cheap second hand one of the following:
- Alesis Nanopiano
- Roland SC55 (or other Sound Canvas)
- Emu Proteus

Shouldn't cost more than 200 euro second hand for any of these items + you get a lot of sounds more Big Grin

If you can't afford this, try a GM plugin for your sound card, or GM sound bank - try the electric pianos and make the release time short + make it bright using EQ or by tweaking the parameters of the GM source

Seems like Nanopiano is what I need Smile But it appears to be very rare. (BTW. This Roland stuff looks very strange! - like a groovebox or smthn...) And yeah. Electric pianos sound more simmilar to this sample I send. Thanx for info! Smile

it's electrical magic
just a regular piano sound from a "electric piano" preset
or indeed the honky tonk, but that's even more western (you know that sound comes from a regular piano, but on the inside every hammer was spiked with a thumbnail -duimspijker- , which created the sharp effect on it, was really bad for the strings tho ...)

Do you mean to resample it with the tremelo and then play it in the high octaves so you get a really fast tremelo??

Just trying to envision it Big Grin
