i could suggest giving more variation to the bassline.
maybe even at first leave it, but when it goes distoreted, it obviously stands out as both a lead and basss, so give it more attention and work on deviations every 4 or 8 bars. chop it up or something to give a bit faster pace rhythem to the song.
it's a nice song.
have no idea what inspired it.

i enjoyed the melody of the track but the levels need adjusting.
the lead after the drop is too loud, and the drums are too quiet.
intersting beat.
needs more variations in the melody.
good structure on the whole song.

Erm, what BPM is this? Very slow!
Great drums, too bad they're completely overpowered by the bassline... In fact, the bassline overpowers everything!
Nice sounds and melodies though.
Gets a bit repetetive after a while though, and the trumpet samples become a bit annoying. Try making the variations more obvious.
2.25/5 for the track
1.5/5 for the sound: bassline is too loud, drums need a boost and more punch

Hey Vice - I've been eagerly awaiting this first upload - and it finally came! The bass sounds really nice and clear right at the start on its own, but it doesn't sit perfectly in the mix - a bit too full - its interfering with your lovely horn samples (which build great tension by the way
) - you could try using something like a multiband compressor to limit each sample to a specific frequency range or a simpler solution is to just pan the conflicting sounds away from each other or even space them out using a touch of reverb or delay with really short time (1-3 ms with <50% mix). The drums sound really nice (where the heck is that loop from? Really cool
but lots of swing, makes it difficult to add other hats etc. on top) but show them off - crank up the volume on those poopin' drums! Perfect amount of reverb on them imo so don't mess with that at all. The intro is very well structured, perfect 1:30 length and builds lots of suspense. The spark sample just seals it! Yes, when the bass comes in it is too loud and too edgy - its highs drown out all the cymbals and the guitar loop (which by the way give great atmos - but should be brought in and out a bit more ex. cut it off at 4:13 for the break down - which is otherwise awesome) And some variation perhaps not with the basic riddim' cause that's cool, but with the envelope (I hear it doing something there at the end of every second loop - play with that if you can). Sick ass ish when the bass comes stomping back in at 4:30
- sounds like something a real band would do - run with that idea for a few bars at least! And then use a varied form of the bass line at the end of the track perhaps. Overall, this track has excellent structure and some great elements, which will be much more prevalent when that bass sound comes down a bit. Unique, funky and powerful
- I see a ton of potential in this one so 3.5/5 - more if the sound is improved. (Hope I didn't make too many finicky suggestions - like being back in class with me I guess!)

Thanks for all the reviews guys!
I've never had any guidance on how to produce so i'm definately gonna obsorb everything you'll give me.
I not surprised that everybody noticed the lack of variation but i thought you'd notice it in the drums more than the b-line.
The drumloop i used is a mix of amen and some random funky jazz/hip-hop loop i found.
The bpm is 170, its what i've always used and works best for me.
Thanks again for your advice, especially Nosrac's extensive review (just what i wanted), I'll rework the track and maybe post her up again.

i think some of the loops could be made into their own tracks, and elaborated on. the track seems to have different production levels on each loop, and im not sure that the original sound were good to use together.
it doesn't take off anywhere really, seems a bit flat the whole way through. i don't know if i like the square sounding groove in the lead, it might be better if u use hitpoint editing on ur other loops, and match them up, then they might gel a bit bitter production wise too.
the layers seem to have totally different effects applied which really spreads them apart and they never really come together.
2.5/5
