haha i dont think someone is getting files off of your pc, maybe u just got some crazy virus or it's your hd that's causing trouble.
do a housecall scan from trend micro at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
theyll check yer system if u got something theyll tell u
otherwise get adaware for spyware
and indeed zonealarm for firewall is good tho it fucks lots of stuff up

ooo what was in the notepad?!
and does anyone have acces to your computer whne yuo are not home, is tehre a password in the bios maybe. do you leave your computer running unattended.
with all that considered you should probably invest in a Router which only allows visters to enter your computer which have access, as opposed to a firewall which is anyone that can transmit out.
you would be wise to invest in router.

i have a router, updated daily virus and fireall protection. the router disables otehrs from controlering your computer, and that's the main thing.

copy your files onto cd and format.
scan the cd for viruses first. it's a Trojan virus, if he's taking control, a sort of backdoor virus that once in can transmit in and out of firewalls even.

no one uses the pc other than me,....to be honest all this formatting and router stuff seems a lot of hassle and really pisses me off, makes me think some people should grow up and leave others stuff alone...

you need a router to prevent them, everyone that i know, with high speed has one. it's almsot too easy without one. software firewalls are practiacly useless, if you just open a file that's got a trojan it renders the firewall entirly useless. not so with routers.
firewalls just allow what to pass through, routers send a differnet ip address and stuff, blaaaa, i don't rember, it was complex, but that's why i figured it was better.

It seems to me more like a prank from one of your mates, it seems unlikely that some kid hacker will leave you messages in your Cubase projects...
And you leave your computer switched off when you're not working on it? If somebody got control of your computer and started writing notes in Cubase you would surely have noticed it I guess

LOL - ok, missed this thread completely
Pritty funny acutally what ppl sometimes believe... I have to agree completely with thechronic...
Firewalls aren't the miraculous cure for everything. They won't stop virusses. They will (try to) stop somone accessing your PC from the outside, though penetrating a simple firewall isn't that hard. Pissing off someone with a firewall like that is even easier.
Also the main problem is that users click on too many things. If yo uinstall some attachment in your mail of which you have absolutely no idea what kinda smth it is, it can screw everything, like disabling your firewall, or telling your firewall that it's ok to let someone with a certain program connect on your pc.. Once they're in, they're in, and nothing much can stop them...
This said, it indeed seems a prank of one of your friends or smth, ppl who go trough the above trouble usually do this because they want to use your machine for something usefull to them, like flooding someone else's server, sending spam, ... In that case, they won't destroy your PC, they have no interest in that, hacking a windows PC from someone at home is done for 2 reasons: abusing it, and scriptkiddies messing around with friends/foes - but then it's probably someone you know.
When they hacked your pc to abuse it, it's in their best interest that you don't notice this, so their "trojan" or shell isn't removed - and they can keep using your PC (oh yeah - now I'm gonna get some paranoid reactions
)
Anyway, if would be a real cracker, the IP-address you have is absolutely useless, because he probably used another cracked PC from an innocent victime, and it's that victim's ip-address you would have then.
If it's one of your friends, just start spreading that you went to the police with it, gave them the IP (even if you wouldn't have it, just bluff) and that they are investigating it... That would prolly let them shit their pants
