Please check out my new track 'Live Recorded Blues DnB (experimental)' and post your comments here!!!
Jungle is only one of several types of music I like to produce - (albeit the most fun cause its virtually limitless possibilities). This is a live standard blues track I recorded for a video application, and I thought I'd try putting a little dnb twist to it. Does it work? Worth going further with this? Guitar, organ, piano, fretless bass, analogue synth all recorded live.

this is what dnb is bassed off of. so it does work.
the durms are to weak though, need them to be sharper in the high end to stick out.....
good other wise.
nice bass......
goes well with the synth.
drums are repative...

Ya the drums are repetitive since I just put one simple filtered dnb loop over this track to see if it would work. If I get positive feedback and/or go back to this one, I'll certainly beef up the drums and vary them a whole lot more. (I'm all about variation - see "Titan" and "fuck with my eardrums")

Wow, that is a very original idea. It had occured to me once or twice that some of the music my old man listens too has a high bpm, but i never thought really to put two and two together.
This particular track though is nice in its own way, but I personally think you could have chosen a different style of blues to mix with a much louder and more present beat. I probably wouldn't be able to say any names of the top of my head, but some blues goes really quick, and i think using their pacy basslines would be good, and also sometimes they play fantastic piano over the top at really frenetic speeds, which, with a few effects added, might make for viable dancefloor music, which this track obviously isn't - though i doubt that was what you were going for.
I think this is tune displays the seeds of the kind of ogiginal thinking that has made High Contrast so great.

Just realised that this thread was from ages ago. BTW I have made a song using a sample I cut from a sort of Jazzy / Blues song from Johnny Griffen 'Out of this world', which worked quite nicely. But to demonstrate what I was saying from looking through my (very) limited blues collection, there might be potential in using piano and bass from a tune like Ray Charles' 'What'd I Say?' But I'm probably just chatting shit now . . .

Most faster blues and jazz is around 140 to 150bpm, this track was at 90bpm, so jungle was just double time. Also, I played all the instruments on this track, so no samples here.

Nosrac,
I have been very impressed with many of the tunes that you have posted, you have improved greatly in the past little while. Costigan Snr. on this end, finally logged in and able to post.
This song in particular, sounds great, you seem to have the technical side down very well, and I love that you played the instruments yourself.
I would have to agree that the drums are a little lacking, and based on your some of your most recent work, your creative mind should be able to come up something interesting if you continue to work on this.
I will drop my comments for your other tunes posted as not to ramble here....

Ya, this is JUST an experiment where I threw a little filtered beat over an existing song - if I were to finish this, I would put a much more destinct snare, and beat in general. As an experiment, its silly this has five stars at the moment. Although I appriciate the generous rater, I hope this gets knocked down a few cause its not even really a dnb tune yet, and I'm sure some people find this crossover awkward. Give "Titan" or "Fuck with my Ear Drums" a listen for a more dark dnb style.

OK, so you have a nice blues track under which you layered some drumloops (which need a boost by the way). It's a common misconception that you can have a DnB track by using DnB beats on whatever genre (I'm not saying you think this, but obviously some people do). This is NOT the case. This is a blues track and doesn't sound like DnB at all. It has different sounds, different melodies, different structure, a different feel... Having some DnB beats doesn't change that. So as a DnB track I have to rate this 0/5. As a blues track I'd probably give it more, but I don't know blues, so I won't rate it.
Quite nice production, apart from the fact that the coldsweat needs a boost.

I have to say I love this track - have listened to it over and over. It is so chilled, puts me in mind of Organ Doner in the sense that there is a real musical base.
Not remotely like your other stuff (most of which I am massively impressed by and *ehm* 'moved' by
)
Having had this come up in the playlist again I just thought I'd post to say it's a great track and would LOVE to hear a finished product.
