Do you know how to get the included VST instruments going yet? Program a beat or synth line? Quantize? Loop? Record or inport audio? Do you have a controller keyboard? If I can be of any help, let me know. Maybe send me a private e-mail since I don't know how often I'll be checking this thread.

Cubase has a steep learning curve, you should post what you know thus far, and it would allow users such as myself or Nosrac to assist you.

Start by opeing a new midi file (16 track), load in a VSTi, go to the first Midi track and using the pencil tool, draw in a bar. Double click on the bar to open the logical editor, using the pencil tool again, draw in some notes. Hold down ""shift + G" this will loop the area that you are working on.

This can then be repeated adding different VSTi's (Synths, drum machines, samplers) to start layering your tune.

If you want to import an audio file or sample, go to the file menu, and select import, on your hard drive find the file you want and select it. This will now load the audio file at the bottom of the midi files (eg. 16 midi track = Audio file loaded at 17) By double clicking on the audio file, same way as the midi file, you can then edit it.

I hope this gets you going a little, as I said, I don't know what your abilities are, therefore let us know, and we will do our best to get you going.

Good luck, and don't give up!! Once you get it going it's a lot of fun.

P.S. Drum n bass is pretty tough to start with, so mabey just try to make a house style tune (140 bpm), you will get the hang of things faster.

i started with reason. then moved on to cubase sx. reason was fast and automatic when it came to setting up a song. cubase can get confusing just dealing with 3rd party vst's and audio tracks, way more sequencer options and many many ways to make your self pissed at the monitoring settings. reason is qwik to set up and the built in midi devices are easy to understand from the get go. the program is easier on your computers cpu and ram. if you are a novice, this is the obvious choice in my opinion. peace.
