Indeed that's the way. Copy each part of the break to a new file and save that seperately

I think that's a better way to work than using recycle Big Grin

The best program for this is Protools I think - with Protools you can extend every slice at the beginning and end to fill up gaps you might have between slices...

You can get the full Pro Tools package for less than 1400 euro with the Digi001 package. I've had one and it's very good Big Grin

BTW the free version is excellent for cutting up loops. You can always export them as WAV files to use in your own soft.

Well that sure was helpful...... (i don't know about you,but it's been a while since i was last wearing diapers Big Grin )

Hmz.. Using Reason, Rex-files don't need this kind of time/HD-wasting. (unless of course you want effects on separate slices..)

Recycle does this automatically (->stretch), but Protools method might be better indeed, i've got the paradox-release so i'll try&check it out.

Thx for the fast replies guys, but i don't think u quite get what i was aiming at. I just wanna rearrange the breaks (quickly) without having to cut&paste manually, and slice up the breaks (al wavs actually) i have automatically (like in even measures, or triggered by loud plosives).

Shocked still a whole lot if y'axe me, me being a poor college student. I'll prolly have two wait a couple yrs before i can spend that kind of $ Cry

The trick with Protools is that it is not stretching (which degrades the sound quality) but every slice you take is a snapshot of the original loop which can be extended to the entire loop again by dragging the start and end points.

The samples are not very disk space consuming btw, short samples only take up a couple of KB at the max.

Quick and dirty automated tools like Recycle are a very fast way of working, but once you've tried out doing it manually you'll stick to it. It's just great how much control you have over it Big Grin
It's also very easy after a while, you just look at the sample waveform and you see where you have to make the cuts (a good trick is to cut a tiny bit before the hit, on a point where the waveform crosses the zero line). It doesn't take more than a few minutes to cut up a loop like this.

Most of the good sequencers like Protools, Logic, Cubase offer a function where you can quantize samples directly in a track. You place all separate slices at the start of the track and then you just need to click on them and drag them to the place you want them while holding down the ctrl key, making an instant copy. Once you get the hang of this it is a very quick way of working. I've seen one of my mates in London who was making very complicated squarepusher-style breakz that never repeated doing this at incredible speed.

If you are working with analog or step sequencer style programs it is even simpler - just assign all samples to a different part of the sequencer and trigger them where you want them to play.

All the small samples together would take up only a tiny bit more than the complete loop...

you can download a free version of it (only 8 channels) at www.digidesign.com

Anyone aware of the thing I heard that there is a port released which makes Protools available for 2k/XP? Someone at my work told me so, and I would be most interested to learn if that is true. Couldn't find anything about it, but from what I've heard, Protools could do miracles for audio work.

When you buy Digi001 you have to chose between 98SE/ME support or XP. W2000 is not mentioned anywhere on the site of Digidesign.

The free version is for MacOS9 and W98SE/ME only...

You can find a lot of info on their website and support forum

My PC has three partitions: W2000 for normal work, 98SE for music apps, ME for games (abandoned, haven't played games in months!!) With partition magic / partition chooser I can switch easily between them.
Try something like that!!

I wouldn't count on an XP version of the free version, it will eventually appear but that will take a long time considering the fact that they just released PT6 for TDM and need to port it to Digi001/Digi002...

And why ME for games Confused It doesn't provide any benefits over 98SE Roll Eyes
