Haha this must be the first dnb track featuring an accordeon as lead instrument
It's very melodic, which is nice for a change. The melodies (accordeon, acoustic guitar) are really wicked and they fit in perfect with the basslines. This reveals some great musicianship, did you follow a music course or have you played in a band or something? It's a bit rare for a dnb producer to make flawless melodies and chord changes
Soundwise it sounds a little too synthesised maybe, a bit more dynamics and life (i.e. less strict quantize) would be nice. Ideally you could get the accordeon, guitar (or is that a harpsichord?
), bass and muted trumpet played by real musicians. The way it sounds now is like old school game music.
What you also can do is put more life into it by not always using the same velocities and unquantizing it (either by moving the notes slightly back or forward manually or by using some kind of rhythm / swing quantize). The track would really benefit from some human feeling!! Especially the accordeon, if you listen to a real accordeon player he will play with a lot of dynamic, no two notes will be equally loud!!
The buildup is really good, you must have worked really hard on this, there are so many melodies and changes that I still find new things in it after listening many times
) Some things are really subtle, especially with the drums, but they add to the atmosphere.
The mix is very nice, good layering and use of effects and reverb. Maybe the accordeon is a tad too loud and the break might be a bit more prominent in the mix.
Some of the parts in the song are really great, like the break at 1:25 that introduces the acoustic guitar
Also the way the break is reintroduced at 4:06 is just gorgeous
It moves around with that cool effect on it
Djeez I'm still hearing new stuff - is that a Rhodes Piano in the background??
I think it's a wonderful and original track, I love it!! If it was played live by real musicians it would be a killer, just imagine a real double bass player playing the basslines...

Hi,
That's right- first dnb with accordion
To answer your question - I have no music education, never played at any band. What's more - can't play any instrument
Ah. Rhodes wasn't used in the track, only some flute-like synth.
By saying break might be a bit more prominent in the mix u meant that the beat should be pushed up?
Oh. And I also feel the lack of 'human touch', espiecially in accordion sequences but FM7 didn't respond to panning and volume chagne- would you belive?!
I hope I'll set off soon with recording live accordionist, bass and guitar player. After this it surely will be A Killer
greetings!

With break we mostly mean the combination of drumkick, snaredrum, ghostsnares, hats and rides.
