If you want to use a pc based setup you're taking a big risk in using somebody else's computer! There is a big chance that it is not correctly configured or would crash halfway through the set...
Ableton Live would work fine, you can download a demo from their website. It has several ways of combining tracks and patterns and is very flexible.
The best option is to use an Akai MPC for playing live, but that's a big investment, although they are easy to find second hand. The MPC2000 is very good, and the MPC4000 is

I believe it will be a set with his own work, and cuttin' vinyl isn't exactly cheap.
Sucks bigtime not being able to take your laptop or pc or something. Guess u will have to judge how much mixing skills u got to start. U could indeed prepare a set and let that play, ad some fx and stuff live (hopefully u will be able to do that, either build-in from the mixer, or with an external fx processor) and add some cuts and stuff with the other player. If u feel more confident about mixing, u could put some tracks on cd and mix those.
Another possibility would be that instead of 1 long set, u make put some loops down on cd and use those. But therefor u have to be sure u can make loops with them cd players. If u make sure you burn all your loops in the same bpm, and keep all your drums together etc it should be possible, and u can work your sound more. (A famous trance dj is said to use this method for his "live" sets)

well CD isnt that bad i guess. it doesnt pop and crack like wax..and usually they dont skip when you get some dumbass in front of the speakers being drunk and pounding on the tables...
not that its ever happened...heh.
i wouldnt want to carry a 25kg bag of records on the plane with me anyway, and since they're my own tracks..i dont wanna press them on dubs because i'm a cheap bastard.
i like that Final Scratch program, but again, cheap bastard.
anyone wanna send me some free vsts?

I perform live with I-mac g3 and Logic. never crashes or fails. just have to make a proper set up on Logic. I manipulate effects and instruments live too on logic. together with guitar (about 10 footswicthes), mic, 2 hardware multi-effects for the mic., sax, trump, flute, vox, and a mouth-harp. I just need a good PA man on the spot. Ok its a lot of draggin but its worth it. I amp the mac true a Roland kc-500 keyboard amp.
just feel what is best for you. it all is verry personal. some people just need a multi-eff. and a metal saw. the only important thing is that it doesnt get boring.
anyway bookings : massimanvibe@yahoo.com
cheers

if you like final scratch but it's too expensive check this
www.vitrualdj.com
the program alone costs about 100 euros I guess,
and you need two timecoded vinyls of 15 euros each
and a soundcard with 4 ins and 4 outs (like the maya44) which you can get for 100 euros (http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_a...148a9fc4933c52e), and you can use it to make your own music, so money is not wasted.
So in total 230 euros (more or less)
instead of the 900 final scratch costs...
