I study Psychology in Maastricht (NL) and I love it. I really didn't delve into the specifics before I started -- which was a bit careless of me, I admit -- but it worked out fine.
Psychology is interesting and the curriculum at the University of Maastricht (not only at Psychology) is good as well: 'Probleem Gestuurd Onderwijs' (PGO), or in English Problem Based Learning (PBL). It's a good system that has you working in a small group and then you discuss problems and try to get the solutions. I do not want to get to detailed here, but there are several benefits from this way of learning and the final result is that you will be able to more easily find a solution in your later profession.
At least, that's the general idea.
I do not know if you live in The Netherlands so I don't know if you have anything to gain from this information, but there are universities all over the world that have a PBL curriculum.
It's motivating, it keeps the subjectmatters interesting and it's fun to work in a group. It takes a while to get used to, though.
Psychology is fun. It's a difficult study (at least, it is in Maastricht, unlike some other universities in The Netherlands) but you shouldn't mind that. After all, you should choose one course, from the hundreds available ones, because that one resonates with your interests, because that one will seem like fun. I don't like my fellowstudents that are just taking this year because they want to fool their parents that they are actually working on their future.
In a final analysis: Do what you feel you want to do. I first wanted to do conservatorium because making music is my passion, but I feared to lose a hobby and get it turned into work. I did not want to do that, I wanted my music to remain mine, to not have to comprimise. You can always find that a study is not what you hoped it would be - no harm done: there are hundreds more and several are bound to be fun.
