kjaerhus classic compressor, easy and good.
free comp
in fact, download the entire classic series, all free, and good. I must say i rarely use compressors, only on part of the break. I use the 'classic EQ' a lott though.
have fun

I have trouble using plugin compressors, somehow they always 'feel' wrong... The ones I prefer to use are software copies of existing hardware compressors such as the Drawmer Dynamics and the ones made by Bombfactory (LA2A, Fairchild 660, 1176). These are all available for Protools TDM but they might exist as VST plugs too.
The Bombfactories are wonderful on bass and vocals and the Drawmer is a precise all purpose comp/gate

The Waves compressors are the best you can buy other than buying some valve hardware or a full pro tools set up, you can download them as 'full' trial versions for so many days, they will eat your processor alive but they are the muts nuts, check out the c4, c1, audiotrack and l1 ultramaximizer.
