Please check out my new track 'October 2004 Compo entry' and post your comments here!!!

My entry for the compo.

It's acually my second one I quickly slapped together in 3 hours since I was very unsatisfied with the other one. I'll upload thatone later.

I've put a real frequency responce test in the middle, but I faded it out coz it really hurted my ears. So don't use it to acually test your speakers, it's useless. Not that you were planning too anyway :D

I'd had liked to add some more variations to the drums (although there are plenty already, but not that noticable) but I kinda ran out of time :D

Hope you like it. I might finish thisone as a real track since it's not that bad imo.

Not bad at all Big Grin

Oh the frequency response test signal is a sine sweep, I feared it would be a burst of pink noise Big Grin Seems like I got a few dips in the low end of my headphones (or my hearing Shocked ). Wouldn't be a bad idea for an article now that I think about it. Will make some good test tones and write a topic about testing your speakers and room... when I find the time (ahem Big Grin )

I like the way you programmed the drums, with the huge booming kick that seems to underline the amen.

Bassline is good but not outstanding. The sub is good, level is set perfectly.

Sound is good but a tad aggressive. Stereo wise there's not much happening, but this track doesn't lead itself to stereo happenings anyway.

If I'm not mistaken you once were advocating against the use of compression, seems like you stepped back from it Big Grin It's well done in any way, subtle and essential.

Buildup is good, only the ending has an unfinished taste.

If you think about making it a complete track, it could use some new elements which you obviously couldn't drag out of the sample pack.

Thought the overall story to this was nice surya everythin kept to the same line, thought the reece could have had a slight variation at the mid point, jus for 16 bars or so, maybe take the first note an octave higher or somthin jus to grab the attention of the listener....personal preference though, drumwork was nice, liked the high pass (or whaterver you used) on the tramen, but needs some eq'ing in parts imo, another thing i liked was the sine sweep in conjunction with the vocal, gives the vocals a purpose to the track.....overall a good track, may lack that killer drive to win the compo, but nice all the same

Score: 3/5

No, I'm against use of compression by people who don't know how to use it. And I don't know how to use it, so I don't Big Grin I used a hard limiter (in Adobe Audition 1.5) to boost the signal 3dB. Thats all. It's a bit too much for my taste since you CAN hear the volume drop at the drops. But I did some wave editing after the limiting and I didn't feel like doing it all again, so I left it this way Big Grin

Lol, yeah. Reason kinda fucked up. It said it was 240 seconds (exactly 4 minutes in other words) but when I redered the track, it came out to be 5.27 Shocked So I had to do some cutting here and there to stay within the timeframe (sorta)

Indeed. The pack was kinda limited and so was my time Big Grin
